I'm frustrated with not catching fish and its not for the lack of trying or having the right equipment as my wife can vouch for the equipment i buy but maybe this will help some one else catch. Where ever i fish the fish are not so i will tell you where i fish and you will know not to go there and probably catch. Friday 530pm to 730 they were not at packery with live shrimp on red fish rigs. Then tried other side of red dot in the freeway lights in my kayak free lining live shrimp from 800pm til 1030pm they were not there either just alot of skippies. So good luck and i will tell you what i drive on my next report so if you stop and see me fishing dont stop run for your life and go fish some where else cause they aint there. I'm happy to take one for the team if my bad luck can work in some way let it be to help some one else.

Hang in there brother, keep at it. Eventually you and your wife will get into them and have an epic day that'll keep you coming back for more.

Just be prepared to have you wife outfish you!

It'll get better! I tend to stay away from those spots bc they are over fished.

Crmsn is right.. Those spots tend to be stacked.. However, you try changing baits? This ain't spring, expecting great results with live shrimp.. Mullet is the bait right now, everyone knows it.. Caught my limit of trout and a 21inch Snook at Packery from 12:30 to 2:00.. Mullet are everywhere.. try to match the hatch..

There many spots where the fish are not, but like I say, 50 ft can save the day. So when you are fishing and greatly stressed, just remember 50FT and IMS. Very Happy

Pulled out some big mullet from a limit of reds the other day..FAT..try mullet Wink

If you have a yak, a day off, and dont mind to drive...give me a shout for some baffin bay fishing...if i cant put ya on fish..welll...lets just hope you catch

Like IMS said. Move deeper or more shallow, sometimes your bait
it just in the wrong water column. Also, be versitile and willing to change your set up (i.e. when freelining shrimp add a small split about 12" above the hook to get those ocean roaches down to the fish). I also agree that this time of the year, you should be using mullet or start bumping bait off of the bottom for some flatties.

up till now i have been using live and cut mullet for the last month and havnt caught anything. thought i would change it up with shrimp and still nothing where is backyard been thinking about trying there.

It's where I play. When driving over to the island look south and southeast it's all the backyard.

sometimes i go to the pier to catch kings ill leave a slide line out for a few hours with no luck.. but you have to fish for whats biting... one day i took down my slide line and hooked a 40+ pound drum in 10 minutes.. my advice be very aware on the water and be flexible with your presentations(dont use store bought rigs make your own they will be stronger, make them for the circumstances you fish) most of the fish i catch are very line shy making me fish with the lightest leader i can get away with.. i usually use 15-50# fluorocarbon for most fishing applications around the piers and jetties... i use the 15 pound fluorocarbon in the bay almost all year unless fishing oyster beds it will land 40 inch drum

Lol, your post sounds like mine! I want to quote everyone who responded back to you but that would take to long! I would say homework is your best bet... I've started to compile a arsenal of info and tips and putting it all together is making sence of this whole catching thing. I know how you feel, I've been fishing my whole life but just started catching this year and I owe it all to the guys here and a few from the kayakers site!
