|

You will need two rods one with a kingfish leader and another with a spider weight.. the one with the spider weight serves as an 'anchor line' you throw it as far as possible and stick it to the bottom(a long rod will help tremendously).. conventional work the best for sidelining (no these are not my actually slide lining rods and i use a 8 ounce weight)
next make what you see in the picture or go buy slide weights BOTH work.. this serves to attach the rod you are actually going to catch the fish with to your 'anchor line'.. my version is just a snap swivel, a 2 oz weight and a little bit of 8# mono(tie the loose end to the swivel on your king rig, and snap the snap swivel to your anchor line to attach it). when the fish hits the light mono will break setting the hook for you(yes you do lose your weight) i learned this way in Kona Hawaii it is deadly on 100 pound Ulua(giant travally) there
yes I'm sliding in my back yard/canal (got some bigger pics lol) i have a pinfish floating in the air ready to go out(hes above the PVC tube lol) the rod on the right is the anchor rod.. lower the bait to the water along your 'zip line' with your rod your going to catch the fish on.. leave that rod in free spool with the click on or back off the drag(if its leverdrag)
there is my pinfish dancing on the surface when you get a bite do not set the hook the fish will do it themselves when they break your light mono (or break free of your slide weight) disconnecting you from your anchor line. There are quite a few advantages to fishing this way first Kingfish hit baits at the surface usually at 30 MPH(fun to watch) second many fisherman can fish near each other without tangling(you can walk away from your poles) and lastly your bait hates being on the surface keeping him swimming so he can try and get to the bottom where hes safer from rows of razor sharp teeth..
To you expert slide liners out there feel free to pitch in with anything you think of that might help someone who has never done it before land their first fish on the slide
this is the best site i found on slide lining kings from piers.. enjoy hope it helps

Anybody ever use a downrigger clip clipped to the kingfish leader so as not to lose the weights? Seems cheaper than going through 2 oz weights. I guess it could fail if it gets wrapped though. Now that I think about it, you could use a heavier line through the egg sinker, then attach a swivel underneath it (like a regular leader) and a thin stretch of mono attached to the kingfish line so it'll break underneath the swivel and the egg sinker is saved. _________________ JJ |

i have thought of that it gets tangled pretty easy though... and a 4 pack of 2oz weights is like two bucks. for me ill pay 50 cents to eat kingfish for a day instead of going to whataburger _________________ http://www.youtube.com/user/Shark456Bait/featured

I build my release clips a little different so you don't loose your weight.
Take a peice of 140# wire 12" long, run a snap swivel on and bend the wire double. Add a couple beeds if you like then slide your egg weight on , a couple more beeds and then I put crimp up tight to the beeds and crimp it.Now I bend the wires out away from each other and and add another snap swivel and your done.
I clip the snap swivel that I started with to the swivel on my king leader, and the other one goes on my anchor line. when a fish hits the top swivel will pull loose from the wires and your off to the races with your fish and your release clip is with your fish. All you need to get set up again is another snap swivel. You can also adjust the wires to the size of bait you're running. I like swimming big baits for kings and have seen a 70# king caught on a 3# blue fish. Just a thaught |

I sometimes use single strand wire on the leader swivel and put both ends through a swivel attached to a split ring on the slide line. I double both ends back and leave about 2-3" of end on it after the bend. It makes for a softer release. I use heavier single strand wire if I need a heavier release.
Just a variation of OP's version. _________________ Cudakilla.com

I have a couple slideaway rigs from Nick at Breakaway that work great. Then you only need 1 pole to slide line. |

I never seen the breakaway line on a slide? Your keeping secrets huh? haha I like that idea because it eliminates line sag when too many release clips have slid down the anchor line. Its a pain to pull that much weight up and get it all back on the jetty. May have to try that someday. _________________ -Mando |
