Guess there is just not enough man power to have steak-outs. I guess their fish are the only ones staying off our borders. Laughing

---hmmm wonder why there's no more fish down there? you'd think they'd put two and two together......this is why we need to get rid of the cartels and corruption, so mexico's gov. can actually govern.....Mexico does actually realize it has a golden opportunity with their ecotourism resources.......I really want to fish in so many places down there....I have fished so many places down there, not since 05 tho - if we decriminalized a 1 certain herb, the majority of the cartels profit would disappear, our jails would empty half out, and we could go fish for bonefish and permit, the hippocricy sickens me.....

I HAVE BEEN TELLING EVERYONE FOR YEAR'S ! THAT GOES ON 24-7 !
I LIVED ON SOUTH PADRE ISLAND FROM 1973 TO 1990 AN SAW THE FISH MARKET IN BOWNSVILLE FULL
OF BULL RED'S , SNAPPER , AN SHARK EMPORTED IN TO THE US. THANK'S TO OUR GOVERMENT !
( THEY CALL IT FREE TRADE ) YOU CAN BUY A 8" TROUT THERE ASLONG AS IT IS EMPORTED.
THEY ALL WANT TO POINT FINGER'S AT THE SPORT'S FISHERMEN FOR DEPLETEING THE FISH.
BUT IT IS MEXICO THAT'S KILLING EVERYTHING THEY CAN CATCH.
ALL THE RED'S , TARPON , SHARK ,THAT GO SOUTH FOR WARMER WATER'S IN THE FALL. ARE GILL NETED,
AN LONGLINED. THEY WILL TAKE 5 MILE'S OF GILL NET OUT WASHINGTON BEACH JETTY'S AN WALK EVERY RED TROUT
TARPON AN SHARK INTO THE BEACH. AN SALE THEM TO THE US. AN IF NO TO OTHER COUNTRY'S.
THAT IS WHY IF A PERSON KILL'S A LARGE SHARK ! I DON'T SAY A WORD.
YOU CAN KILL ONE PER DAY. THEY KILL MILLION'S A YEAR.

When I was stationed in Alaska 10 years ago, i was in a bar speaking with a fellow coastie who was on a cutter in the western Bearing Sea. They responded sunken chinese fishing vessel that the russians had blown out of the water for illegally fishing in their waters.

Even if the guys would have been caught, its not worth the effort to prosecute unless drugs or migrants are invlovled (so im told). The boats get seized and destroyed. Their launcha's are crap but most get seized with nice new motors on them that also get destroyed.

Waste, waste, WASTE and more WASTE!

That story was even on the news up here approx. 150 miles from the US/Canada border. To bad the guys were not caught, could have used someone to swim out bait at PINS... one way swim of course. Shocked

Educating the masses is hopefully a good defense to protecting our fish populations for future generations.

------ my argument is.....it's not really the individuals' fault for illegally netting the fish, its' part of a much larger problem.....the fishermen running the nets are just trying to survive and feed a family in a terrible difficult situation there in Mexico.....if they had something better to do, they would be doing it, but they don't. They're only other option is to be a narcotrafficer............this talk on here with drowning them and such will not do a damn bit of good. The people who need our help is their government, who has its hands tied just trying to keep it's population out of mass graves decapitated, it's a real war.
Mexico's problems with overfishing and no regs is part of a larger problem that we are all connected too, and that is corruption and violence within the drug trafficing trade, on both sides of the border. Their government has been hijacked by narcotrafficers making buckets of money via our drug addictions and drug laws in America....... If we want fishing to get better for us here, as there is no "border" for the fish, then we have to push for more transperency, more open-mindedness on how to help them solve their problems, period. Just think if Mexico was safe like Canada, how cool would that be, it's idealistic, but shouldn't that be how we all think?
imagine the fishing access we would have a mere 250 miles from here.

That is the exact same argument used by poachers in Africa where both game and hunting dollars have vanished. Just doesn't serve as an excuse for abuse. By that same logic we should allow our unemployed to steal to feed their families. Sorry their is no excuse or justification for what they are doing.

Trying to survive and feed a family is one thing but really...2-3k pup sharks? How much does this family need to eat? Also they do have something better to do.. Instead of sneaking into the US and illegally taking our wildlife, why not come here LEGALLY and work?

You gotta look to the demand. That's what drives supply. And in certain cultures sharks are deemed mystical, magical, and will increase the size of your.......feet. Very Happy If there was no one to buy the sharks, there would be no one gill netting them. This is just like the bush meat trade in Africa, but has anyone given any serious thought to the ends they would go to if forced to choose between their families survival and the law. Not a hard decision for most folks. Of course they know it's not a sustainable enterprise, but when they have no other option, it's hard to place blame.
