good job....those little sticks that used to hold up a bridge at one time had been holding fish since the thirties and were only a hazzard to those who who drive rocket boats and dont know where they are going.i have never heard of anyone who hit one .maybe next someone can hire a contractor to remove the reefs in deadmans hole they too might pose a boating hazzard for those navigating in a continous fog bank. _________________ I LIKE MINE FRIED. |

Thanks for the post and THE PIX are incredible. Man oh Man, brings back LOTS of memories. I was born and raised here and it is so kewl to reminisce on how things in Corpus have changed over the yrs. Course some of those pix were before my time, but I do remember my Dad tellin me some stories. Thanks for the trip down memory lane! _________________ wishn i was fishn...at the beach! <*)}}}>< |

Ironmanstan, we have indeed received a lot of flak from mostly locals for removing fish structure......sorry about that.....but I do know someone personally who "knew" where they were driving, and lost a lower unit and ejected his wife from the boat......at that point, as much as I liked to fish them personally, it wasn't worth it...... there is a large difference b/t boating hazard and fish structure.....
BTW, the wife was OK......the lower unit was NOT......it was partially removed from the boat at impact.....
and incidentally, if you'll read b/t the lines and my last post, you'll realize that they're not ALL gone......one of the very best sections remains (MY doing)......IF you trully know where to look.......and "our" reefs in deadmans are safe.....promise..... |

This is great.....jc, do you have another card with the tankers/ferry that you would sell? In the old days the docks were owned by Humble (Exxon) and that's where we fished (cause my dad was Humble for 42 years)...even when the tankers were in. Big flood lights and even bigger trout...3-7#ers were common in the 50's and early 60's. Sheephead to 15lbs were thick on the pilings and we rarely would stick a flounder that wasn't a "blanket"....they were so thick there was no reason to settle for anything under about 4lbs. This is for real!! We rarely fished anywhere else...why? The good ole' days..... |
