Was looking forward to today after being at the Frio River the last couple days and not finding much deep water to attempt to fish. Loaded up and hit the beach. Arrived at the spot right around 2pm, with tide coming in. We wanted to hit the incoming tide since high tide around 6:30pm. Lots of white water and water clarity was crap. Wind in the face prolly didn't help. Didn't see much bait swimming around till closer to high tide, but even then it was few and far between.

Bought some more pre-fab Pompano rigs from Walmart and rigged up three poles. My wife fished the first gut and I hit the second. Consistently pulled in whiting after whiting; ended with around 35 of all different sizes, largest going around 14 inches. Even they stopped biting around 5pm though. Was using green, orange, and white fishbites. Also reeled in two big skipjacks.

Around 6pm she noticed her line way up by the shore, and thought she had it tangled on something. I told her it had to be a fish, and this is what she got....19 inch surf trout...our first ever. She was very happy, and now I am apparently the rookie. She was feeling charitable and decided to put it back. Left the sand right around sundown. A few other fisherman stopped by to check how we were doing, and they all said they hadn't managed to catch anything but whiting. I saw a few trout in the surf but was being lazy and didn't target them with my backup pole in the car. Gonna try again tomorrow and maybe Friday if it doesn't rain too much. Now here's the proof...

Went out there that evening. Had a hard time catching any bait, let alone seeing any.. Ended up with some ladyfish and called it a night at dark.. Didnt feel like wading at night
