The Sea Turtle Restoration Project is circulating an e-mail requesting people to support a 15 mph speed limit on the Park's beach. The e-mail after saying that a 15 mph speed limit is needed to protect turtles gives the recipient the option of supporting the turtle program by hitting a link (1) to support the NPS proposal to reduce summer speed on sea turtle nesting beaches, (2) send your own, unique letter directly to the Park Service using their template letter and address provided and (3) make a contribution. The e-mail is received from Carole Allen, Gulf of Mexico Director, Sea Turtle Restoration Project.

Fishermen desiring to support a 25 mph speed limit at the beach need to send a letter to the Park Superintendent supporting Alternative 5 of the Park's EA.

It would be interesting to see how many responses are received as a result of this e-mail that are out-of-state, or out-of-the country. Would also be nice to know how many were sent under false names and addresses.

A question for CAC. Does CAC have anything similar that their supporters can sign? Do members of CAC have their names attached to the response to the EA?

I have supported CAC since it was formed, but am unclear as to how my financial support is used as well as my name.

I will write to Mr. Escoto with my support for CAC's recommendation.

I think this 15 mph speed is going to happen so just buy a radar detector and forget about it.

Can you use their own form and edit it ?
Don't know if it will just be tallied and unread.

These people are whacked in the head. check out this list of things they "single-handedly accomplished."

http://seaturtles.org/article.php?id=1898

this is eco-terrorism at its best. kill all the humans and let the turtles take over the beaches!!! and maybe, if I work really, really hard, the King of the Turtles will grant me my ultimate wish, to become a turtle!!

seriously dellusional.

PS - Nice avatar cuzn dave.

Ms. Allen in the July 10, 2009 issue of the The Daily News for Galveston County advocated closing Texas waters along the Padre Island National Seashore out to 9 miles to commercial and recreational fishing. See http://galvestondailynews.com/story.lasso?ewcd=fe8bdf6164d64ce7

Because she is so vocal in her views and is now broadcasting e-mails to raise funds and promote the reduced speed limit at PINS, fishermen must take action to protect their fishing and access rights at PINS.

CAC was advised by a representative of the compiler of the Park's EA that if we prepared a form letter for fishermen, it would be regarded as one letter.

Thus, all fishermen need to prepare their own letter requesting that the Park's EA adopt Alternative 5 and e-mail it to the Park Superintendent by July 25th.

For ideas on matters to address, you may wish to review CAC's comments to the Park's draft EA at

Hi Guys! (I'm new) I have a couple of questions.

1. Does anyone have Joe Escotos email addy off the top of their head or will the one for the park office (at the website) suffice? (would love to send it certified)

2. If I send my "revised" version of the turtle peoples appeal, will it cancel out my comment to the EA? (this was FUN. Cuzn Dave, I urge you to go for it)

What PorkFetus said X2. Note the democracyinaction url- 3 guesses who that belongs to.

FYI KSAT12 in San Antonio had the "record release...blah blah" on their website a couple of days ago and either they werent getting comments or werent posting what they got (I tried twice and I did behave: just the facts)
For whatever reason, they pulled the story around 3 or 4 o clock the same day.

To whom it may concern- Please dont be discouraged/ pessismistic and not comment. At least get your licks in.
The problem is that the general beach going population has no idea.

Thanks for this forum, Tyler & all!

Welcome! You are right the average Joe who may be commenting doesn't see 15mph as a problem because they have never been down there and don't realize how long the park is.

Thank ya!
I guess it wont be a change for the people on the crowded part. I meant it literally, though. I wouldnt have found out (& several people who get to the beach more often than we do, whom I told) had I not stumbled across the fishing forums looking for driving conditions.

PINS is the only "real" beach we have left and apparently, 650,000 people (whether they can drive down to the really beautiful part or not) agree. Otherwise, they'd be further north crammed into parking areas/ lots and wall to wall like sardines. I'd bet a lot of those people (& others who rarely even go to PINS) would squeal like stuck pigs if they thought they were going to have to give up going to the beach for this pseudo-environmentalist science project.
If only they knew.

My big fear is that if these lunatics get their way on this, it will be just the tip of the iceberg.
Look at Cali and the east coast with their mlpa's and closed beaches.
They don't realize how much tourist $ that is not being spent already because folks are turned off by the atmosphere the park "staff" has created.
I'll be quiet now...
