Fished the surf Tues., Wed, and Thur. north of Packery using free-lined croaker. Conditions were excellent as predicted by Swell Info. Caught many, many very large trout all 3 days. We kept about 35 trout between the two of us and they were all 20 to 24 inches. Released everything under 20 inches except for 2 at 18" that were deep hooked. Also kept 4 reds from 21-26" caught on Tuesday. I've never seen the numbers of very large trout that are in the surf right now. There was also a distinct mid-day bite. The last day we were there we were releasing trout to 23 inches simply because we have enough fish and it was getting ridiculous to keep any more.

Today I lost a huge 27-28 inch trout at my feet when the hook pulled loose at the last second. Would have liked to have weighed her but probably would have released her anyway. Very nice heavy trout but I don't think she was a Star winner. What's funny is the Parks and Wildlife people who survey the catch at the launch in Port A won't include our catch because we don't come in from a boat. I guess it would skew their survey numbers.

At one point Danny and I were about 20 yards from each other and a 5 ft Bull shark swam between us in the crystal clear water, made a u-turn and headed back out. They are very fast.

If you missed a hookset, there were trout following that would pick up the bait and give you a second chance.

You could not have asked for a better fishing trip.

I am excited to think what the fishing will be like in a couple of years when all these huge trout get to trophy size.

Be careful, there were lots of stingrays!

Only got fish pics from the 1st 2 days:

2nd day total:

Awesome trip guy's. and a nice mess of fish. I agree with your release plan. Now, I don't keep anything over25-28" but anything 30+" will be kepted for mounting. The little ones are for eating.

Good report.
I asked Tyler to post up some pics from that same day but I guess they got lost. My Kodak program does not sync with this website so....
We fished the N. Sticks and picked up some nice trout mid-day on a white rattle-trap as well as some pompano on shrimp/fish-bytes and some HUGE whiting.
Clear water on an outgoing tide. Stopped biting after noon meal. Lots of folks throwing croaker but amazing enough---they did not have much luck. Lots of little stingrays in the wade gut.
