Dirt bag bastages... Sometimes I think the best thing to do is leave it empty and unlocked. Windows are crazy expensive.

That, or booby traps.

can you say vigualanty? I like the booby trap idea- like a big rat trap.
This kind of thievery is just unacceptable, especially within the good spirited fishing crowd...its one thing to have your car broken into in the ghetto projects, another in the middle of a salt marsh, this is ridiculous.

always leave a 5gal can of gas in the back. 1/2 gas 1/2 water. Or some mixture that will truly foul up an engine.

I am new to the Corpus area, but where I come from does not have all this theivery. I am going to just empty out my fishing car and leave the windows down so they can see in, and if they want in they can just open the door.

With the 4th of July coming up I am going to get some of the little bang things that you tie and when pressure is put on it, it goes off.

That will probably cause some of them to pxxx in their pants.

Ok so he left his wallet on the front seat or the dashboard. I wonder why the other vehicles weren't broken into./

Back when Slowride got pics of a breakin, a thread over on TKF included a suggestion of hiding a game cam in the bushes nearby...not a bad idea...not to prevent the theft, but to potentially provide ID or vehicle of the P.O.S. scum...

I move down there in a week, in my few years of fishing in Houston area I don't recall ever seeing or hearing of this type of activity at any kayak launch point that I use...Guess I gotta prepare myself for what seems to be a common occurence... Sad

I never leave valuables in the truck, that's what my dry bag is for.

Considering leaving a sign in the window declaring that all valuables have been removed and leaving the door unlocked...Is this a good idea or do you think this will be seen as taunting?

You would think with the Castle Doctrine Law in Texas which allows you to protect your possessions with deadly force that the thieves would at least be careful. I guarantee that these things will settle down when the first thief is shot dead after breaking into a truck. Would I use deadly force to protect property - you bet I would. The choice to put himself into harms way is the choice made by the thief. Could I shoot someone - you bet - I did in Nam and these guys are lower life than the Viet Cong were.

These things however are one reason why I prefer to access the Corpus area fishing from NAS Corpus. Pretty safe to leave your truck almost anywhere on the NAS.

Thank your legislature for making the actual act of breaking into the auto a misdemeanor!!! Knowing that the odds of actually getting caught will result in a misdemeanor citation does not concern these creatures. Posting any signs in English, Spanish, German or Italian will not help as these bums are illiterate! Of course taking the goods or money and profiting $$$ would result in more serious charges-----if ever caught.
The only thing I know to do is empty the vehicle and hope they are too lazy to take the time to go thru it to see what if any thing is hidden!

to kill or not to kill....
maybe cause them more pain...I'd like to shoot holes through their engine, make them run, then call cops....

seems like with all the technology, they could be caught
