Any time I go t0 the beach I drive from Portland down to PINS and then drive until I find a long open spot of at least 1/4 to 1/2 mile on each side of me. I understand that the beach is open and anyone can stop anywhere there is room but if I wanted people next to me on both sides with their dogs and kids running around me I would drive to Port A, J.P. Luby or Bob Hall which is a much shorter drive and less wear and tear on vehicle. Monday I drove down to PINS and found a spot and was all set up, shade, table and chairs. 3 vehicles drive up and park 20 yards from me and a bunch of people start piling out. I really think these people are like much of our society today and can't make a decision on their own. They couldn't figure out where to stop so they thought hey, this guy stopped here maybe we should also. They get out and wave at us like we were glad they parked there. Normally when this happens I pull out the speedo my wife and daughter bought me as a joke birthday present, they never thought I would wear it, and put it on and bend over picking stuff up off the beach. Usally people don't stay parked to us very long but I didn't bring it with me. So we packed up and moved on down the beach until we could fish without people running under our lines. I ask that if you do go down on PINS and come across someone who is parked alone away from everyone else please think maybe they wanted to be alone. If I wanted to share my beach experience with you I would ask you to go with me. I understand some people can't do things alone and that is ok but don't include me in your beach experience. Also please remember northbound traffic on PINS has the RIGHT AWAY! _________________ Mastergunner, supporter of hardheads for state fish of Texas |

I have always been a person who shows consideration for other people. Don't want to run around naked, my employer wouldn't like it very much. The speedo was actually a birthday gift from my wife and daughter. When my daughter was a senior my wife and I came home from the beach one day. As we pulled in the driveway, I jumped out with only the speedo on and just as I got to the porch my daughter and her friends came out the front door. My daughter has not gotten me a gag gift since, that was 5 years ago. Back to PINS, I think some people who us PINS really don't realize what we have here and those people give ammunition to those who wish to limit our use. I left the Army in 2003 moved here from Germany, no house, no job, no family. Have thought many times about going elsewhere but the enjoyable times I spend with my wife on PINS is really the only reason I stay. It's not the job market or the high wages that keep me here. It's not the shankings or newer thing, forkings that keep me here. It's not all the trash, old furniture, matresses and other items stored in front yards. PINS is one of the only places you can get on a beach and be totally alone. _________________ Mastergunner, supporter of hardheads for state fish of Texas |

Just a heads up. The speedo might work down PINS, but I wouldn't try it too far south of Bob Hall / just north of PINS. You might get the wrong results. |

| Same thing happened to me a couple of years ago. i was down 15 or so miles right at the end of a gut and had already caught a few fish when a SUV parked 15 yards from me. His kids went straight into the water splashing just where i had caught my trout. There was nobody a mile on either side. Looking back i wish i wouldn't have been so rude when i ignored him when he asked if i was catching anything. All you can say is oh well sometimes. |

Just an observation on the situation.
Some folks just do not have manners, and they feel that if they see someone set up fishing, that it is a free beach and they have just as much right to be there as anyone else.
One of the reasons I have not spent a lot of time, or on the last trip my wife and I made to the coast, any time at BHP is because the last time we were there, if either of us caught so much as a whiting, ;people would move half way down the pier to fish next to us.
Some folks feel that if they see some one set up fishing a certain stretch of water, then that is where the fish are. _________________ It is impossible to speak in a manner where you can not be misunderstood. |

The incidence of people parking where youare fishing in not reserved for North America either. I just returned this morning (11 P.M. Texas time) from fishing on the Rhine. My father-in-law and I had a nice area staked out. I got a piece of debris from the river caught in a line, so I ran to retrieve it. As soon as I started to reel in, a couple of kayakers from port Beinheim paddle toward our lines "to see", and a line of cars from the lower fishing area proceed to make drive-by's. After a few minutes rods start appearing from cars and setting up around us. Two French, a German, and two Russian pot lickers. I made sure to mutter loudly in English in the direction fo the French. They left after the realised I had no fish. The others hung on though.
As a course of action, the next time a couple of ignorants settle in next to you beach set-up; walk over and warn them that you are 1. Chumming for sharks and have had "a few bites", 2. Their legs might look like the pigs feet you use for chum, and 3. You lost a few hooks in the surf near where they are, "so watch your feet!". |

it's almost like helping someone and never hearing the words, Thank You.
sometimes people are just too involved in themselves or what they're doing to even think about others.
remember the word "Stupid", you can't fix it, because they don't know any better. _________________ ccbobber |

this...
I'm convinced that most urban folks are uneasy when alone...
they need the feeling of society, even strangers, because alone is even more strange to them.
they've never experienced solitude _________________ the creepy uncle that scares the kids.... |

Funny we always get trucks that stop when the wife is out fishing in the wade gut, but no kids pile out. j/k
Sounds like you may have been North. I don't bother stopping before the first really bad driving spot down there because I like the solitude myself. That first rough spot seems to weed out most of the tourists and only fishermen and drug dealers are further South. The drug dealers are also after solitude and fishermen know better than to stop for anything more than to say hello and ask how the fishing is and they move on. Bottom line, these days if you want solitude anywhere in this world doing anything at all you just gotta go further out of your way to escape the others, sad but the way it is.
As for the cars down there with kids piling up nearby, I doubt they have any ill intent they just don't have a clue what they're doing annoys the sheet out of people, so fall under the ignorant portion of the question. Either that or they're closet PETA members and don't want you catching fish. _________________ JJ |

several years ago in the middle of the summer we went down PINS during the week, not alot of folks down during the week. 2 guys pulled up in a ran down truck and they looked pretty rough also. Said they were from Houston and thier first time there. Asked if we were catching anything. I notice they were eyeing my wife and kinda looking around. They said they were going to stay awhile and watch us fish. I told them no they weren't and they needed to get in thier truck and leave, they did. _________________ Mastergunner, supporter of hardheads for state fish of Texas |
