Yup...see smugglers regularly. If there is a low tide after midnight youll see 1-2 trucks rolling down with no fishing gear, or better yet, rods duct taped to the grill. an hour or two later they come back by going north. been a couple years since ive seen illegals but they usually just pass on by carrying their gallon water jugs and once in a while stop and ask for water. neither one will normally bother fishermen or campers cause they don't want any more attention than they need. most of the thivery will come from locals (beach pirates Razz if you will) that come down and rob camp sites cause they know no one can get a call out to the police till the robbers are long gone. The smugglers and coyotes...I just wave hi and let them on their way cause I know they are better armed than I can hope to be. If you've never seen them u probably know someone who's found some square grouper on the beach. Laughing and if you know some border patrol like I do, you know there's more going on back in the dunes than you ever want to see.

You've seen it, just never knew that's what was going on. And like poolrob said, behind the dunes is a different world.

They should build a small station way down there and keep a couple of rangers down there all the time. I would support that, there are those who would not . If it was run by the military there would be a posts set up on the way down.

love this quote:

kind of sounds exactly the same wording they used to get the lower speed limit during turtle season...."it's a problem, but i don't have any data to back it up" Rolling Eyes

The criminal element knows there are no park police there after 5 pm.
They also know that Escatto got his job @ 100K per year with only 2 years experience in the park service. Being a bean counter for the Navy for 20 years does not qualify anyone to be a supervisor and it is obvious. In stead of throwing more money at the problem, I think they should scale back the park service about 4 or 5 hundred thousand per year and give it to the Kleburg County Sheriff Dep. to put on 8 or 10 deputies if you want to be safe down there. How about

PORTLAND TEXAS Police Dept.

Or the Base MP's

I think if either of those groups were patrolling crime would stop.

I have had a few incidents with both in my youth, and never acted up on their turf again

Or bring home some troops, and let them patrol it,

I would much rather see a bunch of marines than the park pd

I've seen them plenty of times. I've seen jeeps and trucks stacked full with people. I've even helped get their jeeps unstuck before.

It happens....and quite frequently.

I haven't seen the drug running but I've definitely seen the immigrants.

I was thinking the same thing. I will have to look into that some since there should be data out there.
