Can anyone tell me what kind of boats do the rent and how much do they cost daily. Do you need a MWR pass per person or one per group.

Pretty sure it is one per group, but that is not all that is required. You must possess a TP&W Boating safety certificate indicating you have passed the TP&W boating safety course and you must take the Boating Familiarization Course given by NAS Rec services. Boats rent for $50 - 90 per day depending on type of boat. Make sure all members of your party can pass rudimentary background checks i.e. if they have a Felony, etc on their record they could be denied access. You can check the one per group or per person pass requirement by calling Rec services at (361) 961-1293.

RONNIE'S marine has a few boats for rent. Probably with less hassle than the base.

everyone must have a MWR pass. There is a age limit for kids, but, I don't recall the age cutoff for no pass

Just pick the people up after getting your boat, not sure what Ronnie's charges but base was a heck of a deal few years back when a friend of mine was getting them there. The biggest issue was they used to not rent em out once the winds got 15 or more I think (small craft advisory crap) so you have to pick your days.

I rented from them once. I did not have to take any course. You are supposed to take a course but if you talk to the right person and sell yourself as a knowledgable boater you can get out of having to do anything but PAY! It was cheap 40 or 50 a day. I kept the boat a couple days.

Don't count on not having to take the course!!! A BIG STINK WAS MADE OVER THEM NOT TEACHING THE COURSE (for over 8 months) that they REQUIRED to rent the boats. They are quite touchy about the subject now. Seems the Rec Director may have been either reprimanded or replaced. I should know as I was one of the people making the BIG STINK.

They let you take an online course now thru TPW. There is a small fee.

Myself, i just bring my own boat and launch from their ramp. No need to worry about break ins or thefts.

What kinds of boats does the base rent? I believe Ronnie's rents the smaller of their two models of Carolina Skiffs for $350/weekend and the larger for $500/weekend. Heard this from a kid that works there. I have no idea what their deposit policy is.

They are the small aluminum flat bottom river type boats, with a small console on the right. Pretty rough ride on any wind over 15mph.

Flatbottoms and a couple of pontoons. The boats have a lot of downtime so whats on hand may vary.
