I assume you are going to the penisula where the Matagorda RV Park is located and which is run by the LCRA.
If so....besides having a great RV park, there is also fishing alongside the Colorado River(actually diverted channel) which parallels the park. At the end of the road where the beach pavilions are is a parking area where you can park and walk to the beach. The pier is probably still under construction but I am not sure. There is a road that forks off to the confluence of the river and the Gulf where you used to be able to drive thru(very sandy entrance) but that has also recently been blocked off to allow for jetty modifications.
So....if you want to gain drive up access to the beach, you have a turnoff by the road to the condos where you can drive off the pavement and turn right for a short drive to the bollards or turn left and motor up the beach for miles and miles. Four-wheel drive is not a necessity but sure helps depending on current driving conditions. I have always had good luck up there right off the pavement to the right. There is usually a permanent trash can on the right about 50yds down the beach where I line up and hit a gut not far out(certainly not as far as our PINS second gut). A lot of reds and drum have come out of that hole.
If you hang a left off the pavement you can find lots of places to fish and/or camp on that beach. Be aware that this is a Houston hot spot and you might have to hunt for a spot.
This is the end of my novel. Let me know if you want more specifics and I can PM you or vice-versa.
Be sure to have plenty of Off, especially if you stay at the rv park! _________________ Mike |

Mickeyd covered it. You can camp in the Matagorda Bay Nature RV park ($25-$35) per night but you will need reservations for the weekend.
Or, about a mile before the end of the road, you will see a beach access road to the left. They sell a beach pass ($10) at most of the stores in Matagorda or on the weekends right before you enter the beach.
If you camp on the beach, turn left and go down a while 4WD only. The area to the right fills up with day use and weekenders.
At the end of the road there are 2 jetties. Last time I was down there, they were building a new jetty. The old jetty was open and covered up with people but the only good fishing is at the end it's a long walk and conditions are rough there. You will get wet if there is the normal 3-5 foot surf. I don't know if you can fish off the new jetty. I have caught black and red drum, sheep's-head, flounder, spec and sand trout in the pass.
If you go, please send a report. I would live to hear about the new jetty. L |

| If you have 4 wheel drive go down about 10 miles and fish out in front of the windmill. The water gets deep real quick. The cut is 21 miles down the beach. I have caught lots of reds in the cut. Make sure you have a good tent because the bugs are bad at night and have plenty of bug spray. |
