Progressive writes boat policies for USAA now. I use Charter Lakes for the boat and commercial liability.

For offshore boats check with NBOA. They are affiliated with SKA fishing. If you go to their site you can fill out a quote. They will automatically join you up with SKA as part of your policy, but for whatever reason they have very good rates for twin/triple engined offshore boats.
They were able to beat Progressive by about $20 a year for me but it was worth $20 to me to just click on pay bill instead of filling out another policy. But for the types of boats in SKA fishing (big fast center consoles) they have a reputation of having the best rates by far.
http://www.fishska.com/2010/partners/
Also SKA members get stuff like no offshore limits, $10K in electronics coverage free, and towing coverage.
Don't think that helps you flat boat guys though .... but maybe helps someone out there....
Just be glad you don't live in SoFL where outboards are recycled right off the back of your boat whether you wanted to repower or not!

Dang, I'm surprised by USAA given this company's reputation.
They used to require active military service or retired from the military. Only recently did they open it up to non-career guys like my dad who only did 4 years.
Maybe cause they are letting all the riff raff in, USAA has gone all to heck. _________________ Jeff

I got in a couple of years ago and my auto insurance on four cars ( two beaters) went down over 200 per month versus Allstate. Homeowners is totally out there at USAA as they don't want to write them down here in Hurricane country. I think it was like 3500 a year. |

advice from someone who sells it - what the deductible, be SURE that you have replacement cost NOT cash value - this is why some companies are cheap, cover the lower unit, get 1,000 over perssonal proprty limit that you think you need. cover your trailer with COMP & COLLISION,,,, and if you can make your home water a lake - if you fish 50/50 salt n fresh. but most all,,,,, cheap does not equal good,,,,this is why you dony use the 9.00 zebco reels or buy the 1979 v hull boat instead of a blue wave _________________ Happy Hook'n

| I've had mine with Progressive for the last year. Heard that they are the best and the quickest for processing a claim. I think their the cheapest for the rates if you have good credit and no claims. Just my .02. Tyler I will pm you the coverages. |

| BOAT US has always been the cheapest I could find. I pay under $200 a year for my 08 210 Skout. deduct. is high at $500 and have not filed a claim with them. They were much cheaper than progressive, but like I said I have never filed a claim with them???????????? |

Not sure the boat your talking about insuring but is it really worth insuring? USAA uses progressive "Fact"... I am a usaa member and go ahead and try to get a quote through usaa for a boat online. You will soon find they send you to a progressive website... I was going to insure my whaler but it is only worth 12g or so and they wanted like 800 a year.... Not really worth it in my opinion.
Also I just switched to GEICO of all places when insuring my two vehicles they saved me 200 a year OVER USAA that is a FACT. Same exact coverage. Do your Home work and make sure it is worth getting in the first place.
Every company is going to give you a different quote then the other and nobodys opinion is worth much when it comes to "prices"........ If one company was cheaper than the other for everyone then obviously they would have the market cornered and be the only one left. I have never had a claim with any company. That is where I think peoples opinions might be worthwhile!!!
A liability only policy might be worth looking into. |

I have State Farm they have been great.
When I bought my boat another insurance was recommended to me I won't mention any names but it starts with Prog----e. I had two rods and reels stolen out of my boat at the cleaning station, filled a police report and made a claim. Here is what I was told.
This is the insurance guy talking "If you turn the boat upside down and it can fall out we don't cover it."
What kind of insurance is that? That's when I went back to my State Farm.

| I have had progressive since 2007 and they have been a charm to work with, My boat usually sits in a slip on the Island, Last September my son and I went out to the boat to go fishing and he sair dad something doesn't look right, well he was right The Batteries had blown up and started a little fire and burnt all the wiring , fiberglass, and a bunch of other stuff, not to mention all the tackle that was in the next compartment over, I called Progressive Right away and they responded by that afternoon came out looked at the boat and told me to take it to the place of my choice, which I did and all the work was done promptly and it looked like the day I bought the boat when I picked it up, not to mention they payed my deductible and I recieved a check later for all of the tackle that was ruined and my insurance did not go up whe I renewed with the. PROGRESSIVE has my support all the wat. |

If you didn't have your personal property on the boat covered then they will tell you that. I have a 1000 for loss of personal prop. You can add and take off lots of different items. Some agents know what to ask but agents new to writing boat policys may not know to ask or explain all the details..
