|
|
In my research on how to get a FREE Beach Parking Permit as a Disabled Person who has Disabled Plates on his vehicle I have found the following:
1. The Beach Parking Permit that is used in Corpus is good for Port Aransas also, HOWEVER Port Aransas balks at issuing the Parking Permit for FREE.
2. Michelle Thomas is the contact point at the Corpus Parks and Wildlife office and she will issue you a FREE parking sticker just by you presenting a photocopy of your disabled license plate and a copy of your registration with your name on it.
3. Port Aransas is checking out how/if they will issue the parking stickers for free, but they are not happy about it. The police department and the City Hall in Port A are really not up to speed with Texas Law concerning parking by Disabled People. The police actually told me that Disabled Parking is only authorized in Disabled Parking spaces - i.e. I couldn't legally park anywhere else - go figure!! |

I guess the state changed the law because last year I sent a copy of the reg to the city but tried to just find it and now the txdot web site has this:
Parking Privileges
If your vehicle has military or disabled veteran license plates, you may be entitled to certain parking privileges:
•Vehicles with disabled veteran license plates may park in any space designated for disabled parking.
•Vehicles with military license plates may park for free in state-maintained parking lots and state-maintained parking meters if your vehicle displays one of these plates:
◦Disabled Veteran
◦Purple Heart
◦Prisoner of War
◦Congressional Medal of Honor
◦Pearl Harbor Survivor
◦Legion of Valor (Air Force Cross, Distinguished Service Cross, Army Distinguished Service Cross, Navy Cross or Medal of Honor)
◦Legion of Merit
These license plates do not exempt you from parking fees at federal, city or private parking facilities. _________________ Mastergunner, supporter of hardheads for state fish of Texas |

READ CAREFULLY:
Disabled person with disabled plate or disabled veteran with disabled veteran plate THAT HAS THE DISABLED SYMBOL? Either way the plate or the hanging placard has to have the disabled symbol. My DV plates have the symbol. |

It just really sux, that a disabled vet has to go thru so much BS to get to park for free,
Get shot at, bombed, eating crappy food, sleeping in who knows what kind of hell hole, and dying for our country.....easy
Getting to park for fee....hard as sh*t
I'm only 38, but a large portion of my family on both sides served, and we were taught to respect the vet! |

| You would just think that if you had a disabled sticker displayed you could just Park as Usual. The city/state wants to tell you that the beach is the same as a highway, yet doesn't want to allow the other Highway Rules!! |

I am a Retired U.S. Army Infantry Soldier. I have Disable Veterans license plates. In April this year I was parked over at Packery Jetty North side and one of the Park Ranger asked for my Decal. I explained that I was a disable vet and he stated that I needed to go to the PINS park entrance to get a free decal, buy the decal for $12, or to move my vehicle unless I wanted a fine (I bought the decal). Last weekend I went to PINS with my wife's vehicle which also has a DV license plate but not the decal I had previously bought and was asked to pay $10. I told the Park employee at the booth that I was a DV and he didn't offer to give me a free decal. He waved me through but did a double look as I was waved through to insure that my plates showed the DV license plates. I believe that not all Parks employees are well versed in this priviledge that the state of Texas afford veterans or those with disabilities. _________________ Prepare for the unforseen things in life. I believe that ANY VETERAN that has sever should get ALL privileged rights, to any park beach or parking they can get, it's a shame that we can help everybody else but our Veterans, have a cousin in GEORGIA that has been fighting for his disability came back from V.N. w/P.D.S. for two and a half years, and still noting, this burns me up,I'm disable but not a Veteran could not serve cause of my health.my dos centavos.
Thanks to all VETERANS |
