|
|
I am looking at a 2001 Dodge 1500 Quad Cab 4x4 with lifts. Have been negotiating for 3 months and finally have the seller to a good price.
My question is how do these trucks hold up with all the bouncing around they take at PINS? Also, any engine problems from all the sand with these Dodges?
Thanks, I'm not a mechanic and don't want to think about those expensive tow jobs since this truck will mainly be used for fishing trips to PINS. _________________ Become a part of the food chain, wade fish.

These trucks are known to have tranny problems.I have a '98 that needs a rebuilt tranny. The overdrive goes out 1st.A bad shake happens between 40 and 50 mph.with the O.D.on.Check out www.dodgetalk.com Great forum with lots of info. From drivetrain to bodywork,by year.Good luck. _________________ Live to fish.

Yeah the older dodges had problematic trannies, but unless the 01 was used for heavy towing, and nothing stupid was done to overheat the fluid, the tranny should be good. You can tell, if there is any slippage and chasing of gears then it will need tranny work down the road.
As far as using it offroad, they are great and very capable offroad and will do well in stock form out at PINS.
Another good site is http://ramchargercentral.com, it is strictly a Mopar Truck site. There are also alot of "How To"s on the site for stuff like lift kits, etc. Utilize the search feature, there is thousands and thousands of informative posts in the Help and Tech sections. _________________ http://lagunafishing.com - GPS Map/Satellite Imagery of fishing spots in the Laguna Madre

That sucks. My dad had an 01 that he towed regularly with (18ft trailer nearly every weekend), put 150,000 miles on it and never had a tranny problem. But it was nothing heavy, stuff like ATV's, deer blinds, etc. _________________ http://lagunafishing.com - GPS Map/Satellite Imagery of fishing spots in the Laguna Madre

Thanks for the info about the trans! Owner of the truck is willing to accept right at kbb.com trade in value on a cash deal. Has a good lift package on it as well as a few other extras, the only thing missing are rod holders.
Will read all the info at the sites posted and get more info about the trans, plus will take it to have it checked out at a "reputable" mechanic before buying it. Thanks again. _________________ Become a part of the food chain, wade fish.
