I'm new to Corpus but not new to fishing. I know everyone keeps there favorite spots to fish at a secret but was wondering if anyone would share some spots that everyone knows about? Thanks

Mud bridge off york town is pretty sick. I havent been there in a few years but it has proven to be a great spot. Take Flour Bluff drive to yorktown go right and after a mile or two it is on the left. You have to walk back a ways in the mud sometimes but it is good fishing. Dont get caught behind the fence by the damn more than once they might arrest you! Game wardens use to frequent that place. I have seen people get messed with for being on the wrong side of the fence.

King ranch shoreline for trout. Many 30 inch trout have been caught there, not by me! Fish the yukka plant, windmill, or go down to pure oil channel about 4 miles down. It is land marked by a oil rig thing. Or cut across the channel from pure oil channel to the intracoastal go south a few miles and cut left back into the flats for reds. Sometimes the rigs in corpus christi bay are full of trout. I have caught way over my limit there on a few occassions. There are some nice flats by red dot on the south side of the highway bluff side of the laguna, lots of trout and reds there. Those are some spots that have produced fish for me. Pretty much anywhere around here there are fish to be caught. I also use live shrimp under a pop n cork which to my understanding makes for more action than artificials. Cast the direction you are drifting and pop the cork every 5-10 seconds. Good luck.

never mind i found it here http://www.stxmaps.com/map/Default.cfm which is a really nice map put of things I think.

are you going to use a power boat, kayak or wade? Jetty or Pier? Bank?

honestly all the bodies of water are going to hold fish (but finding where they are at and getting them to bite are two different things)
oso bay, corpus christi bay, laguna, nueces bay....etc

i say buy a hook and line map, it has most every thing labeled and marked, also for much cheaper is the TexasMaps (i think their a sponsor) it's about 4bucks at HEB, and has most places listed too.

also drive around and try things out, it's been slow for alot of us lately so you might find the magic spot.

just remeber there can be deep mud in some spots, and sting rays so use caution exploring new waters,

Get yourself a copy of the Texas Coastal Hot Spots. This should greatly point you in a successful direction. Keep in mind to fish the incoming and outgoing tides, as well as, vector and solunar tables. The Caller.com fishing, Texas Parks and Wildlife and many of the local fishing report sites can put you in a good direction. When it gets really hot, fish around bridges, piers and boat lift / docks. Fish like the shade too and baits thrown in around those areas can be so surprising with big trout and redfish. I've had so much success on just reading the water with bait and water clarity. If fish don't hit certain colors try downsizing and something that may imitate baitfish. I catch 90% of my fish that is within driving / walking distances. It's amazing how many people think you have to own a boat to catch fish. Very weird last year was I couldn't catch any 15 or 16 inch trout. They were all 18 to 30 inches and I lost one around 32. Was a great year and this year has been so good in the surf and bays. I don't think we had a very hard winter with fish die offs for the exception of our last red tide episodes. Fish kills like winter freezes and red tides can greatly impact so many species but, it amazes me how fishing can bounce back with great catches. These kills seem to balance waters just like culling whitetail deer for management purposes. Try something new and different and you may just find a honey hole to go back to year after year. A little advice, fish during the week and the angler fishing pressure isn't so bad as weekend angler pressure. Last year, I caught 17 trout in 45 minutes and everyone of them was a keeper over 18 inches. My success is about the surroundings. What is different about the shorelines and what changes in the water as reefs, rocks, sand pockets, guts, drop offs, structures etc. Most big trophy trout I've caught seem to be on structure and fishing during the tides. Good luck for great success and safe journeys out and back home.
