The fish tagging/tiderunner program seems to me to be going in the wrong direction. From what I understand the fish that are being tagged are resident fish from the local tournaments. Tiderunners have not shown up in the ULM yet but could be showing up in the LLM and Port Mansfield. I understand there has just been a handful of surf trout tagged
at least that was the last report I had, the weather so far this year has made catching surf trout a difficult thing.Mike

Any thesis or dissertation in graduate school answers multiple research questions. The technology Laura is using can answer both the Tide Runner theory and general dispersion of trout post tournaments. These are two seperate research questions. It would be interesting if a post tournament tagged trout were to venture to the surf.

They have tagged decent numbers of regional fish, but the surf trout have not cooperated. The numbers are not in the surf with the effects of the drought and red tide. The trout moved to lower salinities proximal to the passes where the red tide later hammered the stock. What few winter surf trout fisherman that are left were very excited to know there were good numbers of trout outside of Packery pre-red tide bloom. To answer the question of how many surf trout have been tagged, the answer is one. I stuck her on a texas chicken catch 5 around Christmas. Laura plans to seek the surf trout again in the coming months in hopes of increasing the sample size.

Billy has played a big role in assisting Laura and Greg Stunz with this study as the surf trout don't necessarily cooperate even when there are plenty of them in the winter.

Nooooooo...I meant why don't you check with this guy and see where or if you can get the information you are looking for. He seems very helpful and anyone that puts up with my crap at the dock must be a pretty good guy.

The fish are a public resource and information should be transparent and
posted for the public to review. Public resource studies and information should always be availabe to the public no matter who is doing the research Very Happy

Mike, snooker ed and I took laura down to baffin a few weeks back. . . snooker ed yanked out a couple of resident trout out of the ditch for tagging. you may want to bump him and get laura's contact info.

I think she has a ways to go to get more numbers, and she may benefit from your help on those days w/o clients. Maybe you can even help her pull a few out of the surf. Smile
