Ran a Shoalwater Laguna 18 with a 90 on the back for years, awesome boat. I would never hesitate to run another Shoalwater as they do really well in the flats, are light and require minimal power to plane and run. I used mine to duck hunt alot as well and it was awesome for that as well. You will love it, simple design yet very effective.

Very good boats, I don't own one but I have ridden in quite a few. Its a great flats boat and can get you in and out of that skinny water. Its a great boat to have around here.

They are good boats I ran a Legend 22 for a while and my son ran a Stealth 19. They run shallow, smooth and dry. The only problem we every ran across was the boat would shear (swap-ends) when turning if you were under alot of power.
The hull is still very efficient even though it is a tunnel.

I own a 20' Shoalwater. Great Boat!! It's not new but does the job of moving me around in shallow water. I have a 150 evinrude with a jackplate and have no problems getting on plane or going through skinny water. I think its an Excellent choice of boat- you can go skinny or deep!

I have a 14' Shoalwater and love it. Mine is flat fronted so it is a rough ride if going directly into waves, but the extra room up front is great when fishing.
In shallow water it will crab sideways instead of turn sharply, like Capt. Mike said so you have to be careful in that regard. I beached my boat running narrow shallow guts when I first got it, now I know how it responds so I can navigate the same area with no problem. Just make sure you learn how it steers before getting in a confined area.
Also with the flat bottom it can be "interesting" when loading the boat on the trailer, especially with a cross wind or current. Most times it is easier to come in at an angle and straighten up with the trailer at the last instant. Otherwise the wind or current will push you off line. Just like anything else practice helps so I suggest you fish often.
I learned a trick watching a commercial fisherman unload his boat. He tied a rope to the front of the boat and the back of his trailer. He backed up and floated the boat then pulled forward and the boat followed the trailer back up the slip. Once the trailer was up on dry land he, untied the boat from the trailer, secured the boat to the dock, parked his truck and was on his way. Using this method I can usually launch my boat and be out of the slip in less time than most with two people launching the boat. And it is safer than trying to navigate the algae covered slope on the boat slip.
Best of luck on your new boat and hope some of this information helps.
