Gold Gotcha Plugs!!!!!
I got turned onto them early this summer and they will clean house. Just make sure and use a wire leader cuz their big cousins like 'em too. |

I have caught them on jigs (not often) mostly on a johnson silver spoon with about a 12 or 18 inch wire leader. Most of them toothy critters will cut that mono in a heart beat. _________________ Fishing and Kayaking its a rough life but somebody has to do it. |

| I catch them all summer and fall at BHP on live shad(small), finger mullet, shiny fresh silver strips of cut bait, Mannolures(1oz silver) or Gotcha plugs. The Mannolure is the best lure going for the pier or surf, it catches everything from SP macs, Kings, reds, specks, pompano(try that gold Gotcha for these), mangrove snappers, and your bottom fish, plus an ocnl small black tip. I very seldom use wire for macs because if the water is clear they usually won't hit unless there is a bunch of them competing for the bait. I usually use about a 3' piece of 50# mono leader material and do go thru some lures and hooks, but that is better than sitting there with NO BITES. The less tackle you have on the end of your line the better off you are with macs. With bait I just use a piece of 50# mono, a single long shanked thin wire hook(like a 3/0 bass worm hook) and 2 or 3 heavy split shots on the top end of the leader, away from the hook. You can use this rig with a cork also. Hope this helps you out. I catch alot more reds with this rig at BHP than the average one or two drop leader fishermen with the 3 oz weights. |

I get these silver spoons in green mackerel from Charkbait.com. They're called Krockodile lures. I call them Smack Snacks. Be sure to use at least 18in. leader. |

I agree with using 50# mono. I tie a big loop knot to the lure or whatever im using to help bite-offs. I caught 8 macs up to 25" this passed saturday with 3/4oz sprite spoon and live mullet w/30# wire on a slideline. A strip of cut mullet works well under a float. A 2' drop usually works. _________________ -Mando |
