I have read in previous post that surf fishing is great September through the end of November? I have some vacation days I need to use up some time this spring and was wondering if there was a similer spring time pick up in action I should schedule my vacation time around? I am really new to all this and all help would be appreciated! Hence the name. Very Happy

Spring can be good. Spring Break in March is usually still on the cold side for things like trout and Spanish Macks. Also March is one of the windier months and Sargassum weed can be horrible in Spring sometimes into June.
We did get a few Jacks early which can be a lot of fun and you can catch big Black Drum in the Mansfield Channel in addition to redfish up and down the beach. The bays can be good anytime of the year so if that is your target go for it!
Here is a shot of Tarzan and Charlie Golla from March 22nd approximately Spring Break last year.

As I live a little futher than you and because of work, I have to plan my trips if I want to spend more than a few hours on the beach. When I do plan a trip it is around the New Moon. In fact the weekend closest to that is reserved for fishing. It is when I have had my best luck. And a mess of 12" or bigger whiting is a good fish fry.

Just my 2 cents worth

Good luck and there is nothing wrong with being a bad fisherman. I am one. We make everyone else look better, and some need all the help we can give them. (Joke)

Was a new moon or right on it Sunday, and the red bite was on in the surf!!! Very Happy I have heard that new moon fishing is good. I will have to plan some more experiments! Twisted Evil

None of us are good fishermen or we would make money doing it! Its just being out there that is 95% of it for me. Very Happy

See you on the sand next new moon Salty Dog!

beginning of spring is a big time for the drum especially at night time. big bull black drum in places like indian point pier, oso bay pier in corpus christi. robert's point park, charlies pasture, station street piers in port aransas. sea lice and crab paws, small blue carbs are the baits of choice. starts around the end of january beginning of february and runs to the beginning middle of march.

You can generally guarantee that during Spring break our weather will suck here. See it happen year after year.
