I'm looking to purchase a harness/fighting belt for beach fishing.

After putting a few decent sized sharks on the beach this weekend, without a belt, I'd like to get one. I've got the best bruise just north of my hip bone that a fisherman can ever have...but I don't want another Wink

Any recommendations? I'd like one that goes over the shoulder.

I looked at Academy here in San Antonio, but only found a waist belt.

Thanks
Shawn

Team numark makes a cheap one called the mansfield special or something like that. They also make another one called the Corpus Christi special which is quite nice.

The better belts are made by Braid.

Look them up on the net.

Thanks for the tips.

I'm hoping to find one that can be shipped to me as a Christmas gift

You might shy away from a shoulder harness and investigate a stand-up design much like the Braid design's shown below in the picture.

I am sure other's more qualified can give the pro's and con's of a shoulder harness but I remember past discussions about them being better for a chair and boat scenario and not the beach where the typical battle will wear out your upper body with the shoulder design and not with the butt bucket design.

One piece of advice is to spend the $$$ on a good harness up front, mine is homemade and does it's job but could be vastly improved and my target is to get a nice braid system some where down the line.

Curmit...thanks for the tips.

I assume you are like me, and would prefer to spend the money on a new rod/reel, in lieu of a $200.00 harness. I really don't mind fighting without them, but if/when a NICE shark it hooked up, the rod will have to be passed to the next guy due to the pain caused by the butt. Could you imagine fighting Stuart's mako w/out a harness? Shocked

If you just want to have a rod holder handy that doesn't need all the straps and stuff take a look at the link.

http://www.actionbuttinc.com/

A guy in Florida came up with this one after about 10 years of trying different designs. I think Roy's has a couple.

I thought they were so handy when I first saw them that I'm Reping them here in Texas. Sorry about the Spam but thought you might like the info.
