| Try Shimano's Symetry, at about $79.99, it's more affordable than the Stradic, but still a good solid reel. |

Need more info. Are you needing a trout rig or a long rod (12ft.) for chunking leaders and surf weights? If it's a trout rig your looking for the one that love2fish mention will work. I personally like the Stratics better due to their ability to land big fish (39.5" Redfish) with their gear configuration. As for long rods, I recommend the Daiwa Emblem XT. Cabelas has this model that is being faced out for about $70.00 which used to run $139.00. Thats the 6000 model. The smaller reels are less expensive. When you call cabelas you have to ask for it or they will think your talking about the newer model that cost a lot more. When it comes to bigger spinning reels shimano does not even come close to Daiwa. Just in line capacity alone. And we know how important line capacity is when fishing from the beach. Penn makes some good reels too but I don't know about their line capacities or any good deal out there. Hope this helps.

| More information would be handy. Your preferency (baitcaster, spinning) what you are throwing, as well as the tyep of conditions (bay, surf, pier, boat) that it will be used from. My personal favorite for bay and surf lure chunking is the Shimano curado but it comes a little higher than 100. Properly maintained it will last several years of hard use and has a good smooth disc drag that makes fighting big fish more enjoyable. For spinning reels look what Capt. Billy uses for his clients in the surf. Very durable Diawa spinning reels. less parts than the baitcaster, easier to clean and not that expensive of an initial investment. |

| Have you thought about braid? I have Tuf-Line on almost every reel and I love it. A couple of months ago I bought a Daiwa Emcast 5000 and a Emblem Pro 5500 with the intention of making them long distance casters. I paired them up to Tica rods and put 450 yards of 30# braid on them, I use a topshot of 150# braid to cover chunkin almost anything and they cast really nice. Those models have the long distance spool design on them and with the added castabilty of braid they come close to performing like a baitcasting reel without the hassle. |

| Sorry about the lack of info. I am looking for a smaller reel, 10 to 12 lb test for casting lures to trout and spanish macks. I have had good luck in the past with Penn's 4400SS, but that design is becoming somewhat dated, and the anti reverse seems to go out on the newer models. |

OKUMA EPIXOR EF30!!!!!!!!!!!
I had an Epixor EF50 for the surf. I bought a size 30 2 weeks ago. I love it!!! It is smoother than my Shimano Sahara and the drag works great. I caught a really nice spanish mack on a skitterwalk using it and the drag performed flawlessly throughout the 7 minute fight. I plan on buying a couple more of them.....
Academy has the Okuma Epixor EF30 for $48!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I use 12# -Line on mine.... _________________ GoinCoastal aka Cap'nSherbet |

| I'll agree with Torpedo. I use four on my charters. Two are a year&two months old and two are 10 months old.Have not had them apart yet. I bought them under the recommendation of Tyler Thorsen and Billy Sandifer. Good move. |

For the money you cant go wrong with the Curado. But if you must use a spinning reel thier all about the same in my opinion. Baitcasters much more durable and given proper care will out-last spinning reels. _________________ Fish hard, fish the Bluff. Surrounded by water!

I like my Shimano Spirex 4000. I think it was about $50-$70. I've heard lots of good things about the Okuma Epixor. I've been using one of their new fly reels and its been a good so far. One thing that makes a difference no matter what kind you get - you gotta clean them good or it'll turn to crap quick. Don't ask me how I know. |
