I know it is not the Corpus area, but me and a couple of friends picked these up yesterday eve. in less than 2 hours on nothing but crab fishbites on the ranch I work on. They range from 20-27 1/2. Released one 32" and one 18" and had 5 pick ups and great runs but no hook sets. We had to leave them biting, didnt have any lights. In the third picture it is amazing how much difference two fish of the same size can be. In the past month me and a bud have caught and released 14 one time and 9 another time at the same location.

Vern, Do you work onthe West Ranch between Lolita and Placedo?

Just curious... I grew up in Victoria & worked in the family lease service business. Exxon had a bunch of stuff over there and my ex-bro-in-law worked for Exxon on the West Ranch. We used go set up lights in the Lavaca River there and catch winter fall/winter trout at night. He used to catch reds running saillines down there.

Yep, I guage wells on the ranch. I have all of the old Exxon Toney lease stuff too. A company out of OK. has got it all now. Both the Lavaca and Garcitas are great for trout right now. These fish were caught in the menefee flats. It is fed by a cut from lavaca river. It is grueling to work everyday and see all of these fish. I sit and watch them sometimes, just swimming in a current nailing shrimp and mullet on the surface. An awsome sight.

That was a blue in with the reds, I fish not far from the Lavaca river in jackson county. There is a boat ramp you put in off of FM 616 then head towards the mouth of the river. There is a little cut that goes back in to menefee lakes. There are a lot of reds, black drum, trout, stripers, blues, and gar there. There was only three of us Embarassed . The last fish we caught was hooked deep, I tried to revive him for a couple of minutes but he turned belly up, so I made the decision to keep it. Here is a link to a birds eye view of part of the ranch. Lavaca river is in the bottom right corner and you can see the cut that feeds menefee lakes. It has always been great for redfish up in the lakes, very few people fish it.

It looks like a good 5-6 mile just to get to the lake, plus whon't it have a fench. Then you have to make it back how bad is the current? only have a yak after all.

Could you of tagged one and been legal? Anybody know? I think I'd of tagged the 27 1/2 red just in case.

Great catch Vern! Thanks for the link also.

The tag is only for over 28", no matter if I would have tagged one or not, still was one over the daily bag limit and I doubt a warden would have been sympathetic to my situation. Not a chance I like to take. I dont even like keeping that many fish, most of the time we will just catch and release, but the other guy with my bud and I wanted some fish bad, so we went ahead and kept them. Dont get me wrong, I love to eat fish, but I think I like catching them even more, and with the amount of fish we catch on a regular baisis for such a small area up in the lakes, I am afraid it would throw the system off If we kept everything we caught.

True in your case but a tagged redfish over 28" doesn't count against the daily bag limit of three.
