There Was a City Council

There was a City Council that swallowed a beach.

I don’t know why it swallowed the beach.

Perhaps it’s a leach.

There was a Commissioner who swallowed a seawall,

That cut off the sand that belonged to us all,

Because the City Council swallowed the beach.

I don’t know why it swallowed the beach.

Perhaps it’s a leach.

There was a developer who swallowed a dune,

What a maroon! to swallow a dune,

Because the Commissioner swallowed a seawall,

That cut off the sand that belonged to us all,

Because the City Council swallowed the beach.

I don’t know why it swallowed the beach.

Perhaps it’s a leach.

There was a Corps of Engineers that built a big jetty,

And dredged a big channel at a cost far from petty,

To rebuild the dune and put back the sand.

But the seawall still stands,

On the Commissioner’s lands,

Because the City Council swallowed the beach.

I don’t know why it swallowed the beach.

Perhaps it’s a leach.

There was a City Council that swallowed a resort,

It’s dead --- of course!

That was great Johnny. I did not know you were a poet as well as a great representative of all of us who are so grateful for your sincere concern for the beaches that belong to the people of Texas. That was a great poem and speaks so much truth.
You are a good fisherman as well.
Thanks for all you do for all of us.
