Got up to load the kayak and head out to one of the rigs for some redsnapper this morning. Drove down to the 4 wheel sign and I couldnt see the rig because of all the fog. Yakman said he would be at the 50 so I figured and hour down and back and the fog should be cleared off by then, so away I went. Got down to the 25 and stopped for some stupid reason and thats as far as I got The stopping wasnt bad, the bad part was I stopped on the shell I got out the highjack and rounded up some boards and got ready to jack up the truck when 2 guys in a black pickup stopped and ask if I needed any help, who me, no thanks I said, I think I can get it. So I jacked the truck up and put boards under the rear tires and lower the truck and tried to back out. Wrong answer. The truck slid side ways off the boards, well me and the truck and the boards proceeded to round and round. The boards won. So after about 5 times going thru this routine I thought well maybe I should try and put some boards under the front tires also. About that time a guy and his wife showed up and asked me if I need help and I didnt hesitate to say yes (so much for the macho image). Well he got me up on the sand and I was ok then. His wife had a camera with a 12 inch long lense, I know she took a picture. They were driving a Z71 sort of between a silver and a tan. And I want to thank them for their help.
Well i got merrily on my way heading back north. Got to the 4 wheel drive sign and I could just make out the rig out there. Great now its time to put the yak in and paddle out there (about 4 miles took an hour). I got about half way out and the fog cleared completly and the sun was out and the water was fantastic. I caught my limit of red snapper, the smallest was 15 inches and the largest was 18 inches. My first cast I had a redsnapper on and he was really putting up a fight, bending my rod down to the water and pulling out the drag. I really thought I had the grandaddy of redsnappers on and then the line went slack. Reeled the line in and up comes a head
Fished a while longer and then decided to head back in. I put my rods and tackle boxs in the storage area inside of the kayak and every thing else went into the cooler and I had a rubber strap over the top so the lid wouldnt come open. You never know what may happen when you start coming back in thru the breakers. (thats another lesson learned the hardway) I managed to get back to where I could see the truck and thought, fantastic I was able to hit the right part of the beach. I thought that I might have to paddle about a mile either way because there are no distinctive markings on that part of the beach. Well after patting myself on the back for that one I proceed to work my way in thru the breakers, I was just coming in over the first bar when a wave snuck up on me and turned me side ways, I forgot to lean into the wave and it rolled me over. Stood up and looked around and went over to the kayak and turned it back up and everything was intact One thing about my fishing trips I never lack for excitment.

| Nice catch and nice weather. I went for a boat ride in the bay. If I had known it was flat I would have headed out into the gulf. |

| Very nice fish......Be careful, I think TP&W would count the snapper head as a 5th fish. Maybe it should have "swam" away instead of adding it to the photo |

I was using cut whitting. But just about any cut bait will do. _________________ Fishing and Kayaking its a rough life but somebody has to do it.

I really want to hit the rigs sometime. I think I would want to hit the one by Mustang Island first, it's suppose to be a mile out. The one by Bob Hall is about 2 and half miles.
If the weather is right I'll be ready to make the trip. Since it would be the first trip, I would like to go with a few folks that have done the rigs before. Post up when you are going again and hopefully we can make a trip of it.
See ya on the sand,
