Brand new 4/0, a buddy of mine, decided to set the rod on the ice chest while driving in the sand spike and it slid off and the waves washed over it. Yeah kind of gritty feeling to say the least. Who is good and reasonable? Anyone with experience good or bad, please suggest someone. Thanks Smile

Roy's (on SPID) is the best. Very good customer service with quality work.

Gulf Sporting Goods in the Saxet center on leopard street. Talk to Bob.
He's cleaned two of my 6/0's and replaced parts for me. He's been doing custom rods and cleaning and repairing reels for a long time.

to clean a 6/0? I bought a couple off of Ebay and the star drag seems to get stuck.

Thank,

Roys if you can't do it yourself. I just brought this Penn 525 Mag back from the dead. Pretty sure it got dunked, spool would not spin, handle rough to turn. Side bearing was rusted and stuck to the spindle. Its all working now and fishable but not 100% I'm going to replace all the bearings and the anti reverse. BTW, a friend got this off ebay and the seller would not answer his requests for return. Check out the shot glass, that was clear petrol when I placed the bearing in there, looks like chocolate after soaking and agitating. The frozen rusted bearing came free and runs OK.

Lay it out piece by piece or just take it to Roys & dont worry about it.

Whose got time to fumble with tiny pieces that fling into the air when you open them up when theres fish to be caught. To heck with all that mess take it to Roys.

I can have either of those reels stripped, cleaned, lubed and ready to fish in less time than it takes you to go to Roys and back.
