Y'all smile when you say them words. Miz Libby don't know satire from sardines.

Beach for all
After I parachuted out of a B-24 and became a POW for six months in the fall of 1945, the military gave us a luxurious stay at one of the Miami Beach hotels.
On Sept. 1, 1945, I married my dear bride, who had been staying with her brother in Boca Raton. We spent our honeymoon time roaming the Florida beaches.
A few years ago, we were traveling again to Florida and thought it would be romantic to stroll those same beaches. The problem was we didn't have a city parking permit and couldn't get to the beaches.
We have lived in Corpus Christi since 1950 and have seen the changes in the city - some good, some not so good. We now live out on the Island and are experiencing the so-called booming values.
Libby Averyt's Dec. 18 Viewpoints column ("Is Redneck Riviera the image we're after?") caused one to wonder what journalism school she graduated from. I don't believe Mr. Schexnailder's development will collapse if some, as Averyt says, rednecks cover that part of the beach. When Texas allows gambling, Mr. Schexnailder may very well have a half billion-dollar development. The causeway was built to benefit even the fishermen and vehicles.
Port Aransas has managed to accommodate citizens and vehicles. Corpus Christi can without scaring off fantastic Las Vegas-style developments.

Buying snake oil
I would like to thank Editor Libby Averyt. I believe the people fighting to keep our beaches open owe her for helping us see this issue more clearly. In her column of Dec. 18, her usual patronizing condescension blossomed into snarling contempt ("Is Redneck Riviera the image we want?").
As one who enjoys the beaches and believes they should be kept open. I found her column amazing and revealing. When she states that this developer aims to bring in tourists "with money spilling out of their pockets," I can't believe she is the one calling us provincial.
It appears to me she has lined up to buy every bottle of snake oil Mr. Schexnailder has to offer. And she is calling us bumpkins!
At least City Councilman Mark Scott appears to be shamelessly motivated by nothing more than good old-fashioned greed. In her case, Libby's motivation appears to be a simple lack of intelligence coupled with good old-fashioned snobbery.

'Red' good folks
Libby, Libby, Libby . . . we "rednecks" take great offense to Libby Averyt's recent column ("Is Redneck Riviera the image we're after?", Dec. 1 .
We happen to be "brownneck and brownernecks," too. Most of us are the first in our families to graduate from college; most of us paid our own way, with a little help from the government.
We have kids now in college, most paying tuition to Texas schools. We love our families, our church, our community and our state.
We would never throw our beer cans into the sand dunes. We've been taught to only throw our cans onto well-manicured lawns (my favorites are on Hewitt Drive) where we know they will be promptly picked up by a well-paid staff.
