Long time reader finally posting. First off, I really have enjoyed years of reading other's reports often very funning (ex. Coons overruning a camp at Mansfield jetties)and educational. So thanks. My question to all is I was down with family and friends a couple of weeks ago fishing at Fish Pass jetties and on the way home I stopped by the tackle shop never having enough gear. Wink I picked up a Sabiki rig and looking at it was wondering if it could be used off the jetties and with what sized sinker attached to the end? Should it be jigged or can it be reeled in like a lure? I am coming back down the weekend of the 23rd and would like to try it out. Thanks for any and all advice. Hammerhead

I am a huge fan of the sabiki. I use them all the time. First know that the sabiki is not meant to be able to reel in a huge fish(but possibly can). I use a small sinker and toss it out with each hooked tipped with a tiny piece of fishbites. This will catch fish after fish. I wish I had a picture of it but I actuall caught 5 small jacks on one sabiki rig, all at the same time. Jacks were about9 inches each. These rigs are alot of fun and are great at the jetties, tip it with shrimp for some possible mangrove snapper action. Fish these how ever ya want to there is not really a wrong way. In the surf I throw them out and kind of use them as a jig. At the jetties I ike to play around the rocks with them. Use a long pole andjig them around the rocks or throw it sideways along the edge of the jettie line and reel it in simi fast, do this a few times and usually get the fish excited and most always will catch something ranging from belted sandfish to perch and spanish macs.
have fun and long live the sabiki

keep on fishing

I do something similar when drift fishing. I make 4 or 5 loop drop mono line with tiny hooks with small bit of shrimp. tie it to the side. When I want a fresh piggy perch for bait, just haul it up. Works sometimes. I just wish I could use those *#@& hardheads for bait.
