This was the make up trip for when we were washed off PINS because of Wilma and boy did it make it up for my oldest son.
Hit the beach around 9:30 PM or so with my son and Derek on Saturday and made it to the 54MM around 12:45 AM Sunday where our friend from SA (James) was camped out.
We were greated with good news, he had already CPR'd 21 slot Reds and 1 24" snook and had 8 runs on shark rods. James said all his shark runs were in the wade gut.
We emmediately set up the BBQ and threw some burgers on the grill.
Rigged up My son's 542/Squidder combo and casted a fresh piece of skipjack into the wade gut. 30 minutes on the beach and my son hooks up his first fish of the trip. It turned out to be a 5' 6" bull. Derek hooks up to a 4' 1" Black tip shorlty afterwards.
The rest of the trip would turn out to be just as productive as the first 30 minutes were.
We wound up staying until Monday and took off around 12:30PM.
We heard of 7 flat tires on 4 vehicles, fortunatley we were not one of them.
All sharks were caught in the wade gut on skipjack.
Skipjack were caught on finger mullet, as were the redfish and snook.
The jackfish was caught on skipjack aswell.
Final tally was.....
Freddie (FS542)
6 sharks, 4 slot reds, a few rat reds, 1 jackfish, and lost 2 sharks that could not be stopped on the Squidder.
Derek
2 sharks, 1 slot red
James
1 shark, 21 slot reds, and 1 slot snook.

Friend James has it on a disposable 35mm camera, he caught it before we got there with the digital.

We had a blast, Freddie hooked up to something big that had taken him down to about 1/4 spool in a matter of seconds on his Squidder and heated up the gear side of the reel. I was afraid he was going to get spooled so I tightened down the drag, what ever it was took a few more yards then finally broke the 30LB clear blue Stren. I have to say it was the best trip we've had to date.
BTW hows your leg?
