We left the blacktop Sat. evening around 6:00 PM for a three day trip with my dad (Chuck Golla) and the boys (Chris & Justin). The drive in after dark coincided with high tide so we called it a night at the 20m and made camp. Rain set in after midnight and lasted till sunup.

Sunday morning the tide was down so we picked camp and headed south. Around the 25m we found Sport fisher and got a report that his party limited out on Redfish the day before. Pushing south we tried a few spots "unsuccessfully" before reaching the Mansfield Jetties at noon. As we came through the 50s we started seeing an increase in bird activities and the wade gut was full of finger mullet. We stopped a little short of the rocks and started catching Redfish in the wade gut on finger mullet. By 3:30 PM we had our limit of Redfish and even tagged a few oversize ones. Chris also caught and released one snook just under the 24-inch minimum. With a strong north wind still blowing we retreated to the channel and made camp.

At nightfall, Chris took in a little floundering and managed 6 nice flounder between all of the other flounder boats that were working the cannel.

Monday morning we were awaken to the sound of Jack Crevalle busting finger mullet "right outside our tend door". When we came out the whole channel was full of Jacks and in the chaos we managed to catch four. All of which broke off before making to the bank. At 9:00 AM we returned to the surf " in search of " the Redfish we had left biting the day before. We found Capt. Billy and Casey Smartt at the rocks trying to take a few Jacks on a fly. They reported a slow morning after visiting and providing Chris with some new fly lures "Thanks Casey".

The Monday bite never happened and the day ended with only three Redfish and two Trout. We had two 6/0 Shark rigges set out all day that were untouched. Tides were much lower than on Sun. and the wind laid to nothing,

Tuesday morning greeted us with a very low tide and no wind. With no activity in the channel we picked camp after breakfeast and started working north. The surf was flat and clear and there was an abundance of fingure mullet lazily roaming the wade gut unchallenged " not what you like to see". Around the mid 40's our luck changed when we found a little activity on a steep bar where there was no wade gut and the first gut was wide and deep. Spanish Mackerel where interrupting the steady flow of fingure mullet as they passed this point. Chris honed in on the Mac's but our attention shifted when we found there was a good concentration of Pompano to be caught on green shrimp flavored Fish-Bites and pealed shrimp. 24 Pompano later, the bite slowed enough to eat lunch, head north to the mid 30's and find them again. 28 more Pompano filled up the fish box so we left them at 4:30 and called it a trip. Of the 52 Pompaon, most where in the 1 to 1 1/2 pound range with about 8 going around 2 to 3 pounds. Green Shrimp flavored Fish-Bites were the predominant color. Driving was excellent with low tides.
Happy Thanksgiving,

Great report Charlie...if the weather is right on the 3rd...we might be able to gig some of those flatties. The freezer is getting full, but I have some room for some flounder.

See ya on the sand,
SportFisher

Hey Charlie-

Those smoked redfish slabs you gave me at the jetties never made it past the 50's. Good eatin'! Hope to see you on the beach soon.

Thanks,
Casey
