|
|
Someone please lend me a lucky horseshoe if you have one. Otherwise, I wouldn't mind your prayers and well wishes. Think of some real bad things that you wouldn't want to happen to you or anyone else. Well, one of those things hit my fan last week. I hope you don't mind me sharing this. It's like a therapy thing for me to explain. Hey, it's not costing me any money like with a counselor to do this.
Bummer, I'll have to start looking for a new job and be in it by Aug. Unfortunately Corpus Christi isn't plentiful in my area of specialty (environmental, health & safety, HAZMAT mgt.). This really stinks. I could have gone anywhere in the country for much more money a long time ago. But, I've been staying in town because my Twins enjoy this area, all the nice people who fish and that I've gotten to know, Corpusfishing.com of course, weather, beach, not too bad of traffic getting around, affordable housing, etc. I could have been making $10K -$20K more elsewhere, but... but. So many reasons I stayed and started liking Corpus; especially the fishing of course! Now, I need a job to keep me here. The jobs are scarce here in my line of specialty. The jobs are in Houston and all across the country.
Maybe I'll start sleeping in my Sub and live off the waters and don't worry about a job. I did live on the beach in Key West for a week. I did meet some fine looking girls from Austin on one trip there. Man, they thought they were from Europe... they didn't want any tan lines. Got the picture. As you can see, I did survive with a big smile. Hmmm, I didn't like the police chasing me off the beach at night while I was sleeping there. Oh yea, that wasn't fun. Oh yea, that was when I was single and I didn't have my Twins to support and worry about.
Well, I hope that I won't have to post from elsewhere in the country. If anything, it'll probably be from Florida or California: hoping and planning if necessary. That'll still keep me near the waters for Chasing the RedFish. However, I enjoy it here with all the good people. Money isn't everything! Unfortunately, money is a key factor in supporting the welfare of children. I hope that I can stay here as long as possible.
I'd appreciate any prayers, especially from the Fishgods to keep me here by letting me find a suitable and affordable job.
Thanks fishing fans for allowing me to express this. Now, I could use that ice cold beer and a shot of Yagermeister or something. (Man, I'm getting a hang over just thinking about it. Just please give me a ice cold one. Hehehe. Oh, here's my keys just in case I get STUPID and decide to drive. Thanks. ) _________________ Live To Fish Tomorrow... Fish To Live Today

Have you checked with, I think the company name is Miller. They are HazMat. I have a brother-in-law, and a nephew that works there. If not, I have a brother here in SA with Eagle Haz/Mat. Check with them, they seam to be a large Co.
Best of Luck,

I know there are some hazmat firms around. Those gov't jobs though are hard to beat.
I would hate to have to move to Houston too! Too much traffic etc.
You will find something.

Try the local contractors that work in the refineries,
Bay-Repcon-H&S always need good safety men. |

I'll follow-up on all suggestions. Thanks.
I have recruiters who can place me all across the country in my specialty. However, I want to stay in Corpus and I have to stay in Corpus because I have primary custody of my Twins. The damn stupid judge placed a restriction in my child custody decree that I can't move them out of Nueces/Gregory Portland. Even if my livlihood depended on it. How crappy is that? I won't mention the retired judge's name (male judge). But only that he's a donkey. He slept almost all through the court processes over several days that lasted over couple of weeks. What a bleep. I think he just likes anything with skirts and favors females. That favoritism needs to be kept out of the courtroom when people's lives are at stake. Man, I hope he gets Montezuma's revenge many times over! Sorry, just letting some hot air out due to my situation. _________________ Live To Fish Tomorrow... Fish To Live Today

Redfish Chaser--
I feel your pain. I'm an E,H & S person myself and lost my job on April 1--Without any warning!! I've got experience in Chemical Distributing and Industrial Manufacturing in the Houston area and have put in countless resumes in the Houston area. Had some interviews with no luck and it's getting hard to deal with. (this is a very competetive field) Had some opportunities to get a job but don't want to move to Kansas or Indiana!!-----No salt water!!
I live in Sugar Land and am a short drive from Freeport, Matagorda, and Port O' Conner and have fished these areas since I was a kid and don't want to move. I make trips down to Corpus to fish with my brother-in-law who lives in Corpus and love the area -- but like you posted -- the E,H, & S jobs are not very plentiful.
Keep the faith - I am - something will come along. Are you a member of ASSE? Do some searches online from EHScareers.com and use the internet to your advantage. Or, get the phonebook out and contact every employment agency within a 60 mile radius.
I'm with you. Say a prayer for me and I'll say one for you!
Best of luck--- MJ |

| Hey Redchaser, I understand what you mean about "male" judges had one in Houston during my divorce who gave sole custody to my ex after she had abandon our children and dissapeared for a yr and a half. I finally was able to take custody back from her 2 yrs ago with a female judge who didn't even hesitate to see the way things really were. Took me nine longs yrs without my kids but finally I was very blessed with a great atty and a non bias judge. I will let you know if I hear of anything out there, I deal with alot of companies. |
