| after waking up at 4:00 in the morning to find out it was raining like crazy i went ahead and took a shower and went back to sleep woke up at 7:30 and the rain had stooped so i called my buddy up loaded the truck and xterra and headed south of bob hall. when we left the wind was calm, but when we got to jfk to catch some mullet the wind was howling. still headed to the beach anyway to find tons of people so we drove down a few miles and found a good spot to set up, but the waves were like 5 rows and about 4 ft, not too smooth. we tried fishing with some horse mullet that i tried yaking out, but the waves wouldn't let me get past the second bar. the waves were so big i had one pick me up and take me all the way back passed the first bar i was doing a good 15-20 in reverse very weird feeling in the yak. after dropping off the bait i came back in on a monster wave that took me all the way to shore. i had a 12oz spider weight with 8ga wire and it still gotpulled out by all the weed. weed was horrible at on time on my 9/0 i had about 30lbs of it on my line, it looked like i had a fish on just trying to drag it in. some people even stopped to look. either way gave up on fishing when my daughter caught a whiting in about 1ft of water where the last breakers fell. so me and my buddy rigged up for catching whiting and i boxed 3 and my daughter got 3 more before they stopped biting. my buddy got skunked on the whiting. froze those up for our trip to pins because he just got a 4x4 truck so he wants to go to port mansfield this weekend. |
