I have also heard that they are rolling right off the Port A jetties on out-going tides. They said they were at the very end of the jetties. They also added they were not monsters but they were tarpon....

I fished 4 days for them last week and managed to jump a nice one. The fight lasted about a minute on a TLD10. He jumped once close to the pier then a second time about 175 yards out. He broke my leader on the second jump.

The weekend of the blue moon, my dad and I fished the BHP and watched with amazement along with everyone else on the pier at the 3-5 ft. long tarpon slowly rolling and surfacing under the lights. We threw everything at them all night, but not a single one landed. There were hundreds of people on the pier that night. Never seen it like that before. Along with the large tarpon who were uninterested, there were hundreds of sand trout that were very interested, infesting the water under every light along the pier and they were easily plucked from the water. Some small sharks along with an 8-10 ft shark was landed ON the pier. Several people hoisted the giant on to the tee-head. 30 minutes later all that was left of the shark was his 18" dorsal fin and his jaws. Unfortunately, the rest was thrown over the rail of the pier to many people's disgust. -pebster

There should be a regulation against killing a magnifent animal like that soley to take home a souvenir or two. Sad

If I was there, I would have tossed whoever was responsible into the water after the shark! Mad

Here's an idea Idea Take a picture, release the shark, and buy a plaster replica of the jaw to frame the picture.

I agree with you guys. I would think people who do that should be charged with waste of game. It's just like people that will a big buck just for the rack.

Thats a great fish. Wished Costa Rica was a little closer. I'll be in Port A in a few days and am going to let the reds "rest" and focus my attention on tarpon out around the ends of the jetties. We shall see...
