I am normally more of a lurker around here but I am taking the wife to Port A this weekend and she made a comment last night she would like to finally catch a big Drum. We are planning on going to the north jetty on Saturday[weather permitting] and was wondering where and what have been the best methods over the last few weeks. My oldest son and I have caught a few on sea lice this time of year. Just wondering if anybody else has any input to help her out.

Last year we nailed a bunch of those beautiful (NOT ugly) black drum at the Mansfield Channel using combinations of shrimp- and crab-flavored Fishn' Strips with a dab of peeled shrimp on the hook tip as garnish. One of us caught a drum on a Fishn' Strip all by itself, but I prefer the added attraction of the shrimp bit. The advantage to using crabs and sea lice is that the bait stealers can't get them off the hook as readily as they can shrimp, which drum really love. Fishn' Strips have the same advantage and are a lot easier to put in your tackle box. Less stinky, too. Laughing

They have been catching BU's off the wall and pier at that park by the jetties on the Port A side. I have nailed a few there myself.

The only thing is that you will catch about 20 hardheads for every drum or redfish.
