2/6/ thru 2/9 Cold, cloudy, East wind 10-15 mph

Fished all the hot spots from Port A to Emords hole over 3 days. Fishing was slow to say the least. Caught 2 slot reds and 1 dink trout over 3 days. Live shrimp & mullet and even threw lures w/ no success. Coundn't even lose a shrimp to trash fish.

I see posts every so often from newbies who wonder what effects weather has on coastal fishing. I'll tell you this - I'll never fish an East wind again. I know for a fact in freshwater an East wind is a killer. I learned it's the same in saltwater also. We were just so anxious to go we ignored the weather forecast.

You can bet I'll be watching the weather next time.

Wind from the east is fit for neither man nor beast
Wind from the west makes fishing the best
Wind from the south blows the bait in the fishes mouth
Not sure what the wind from the north meant, but suspect it is kin to the east.
Now me, I will take it from the southeast to the southwest anytime.

As a PINS surf fisher, I gotta love those west winds for fishing. They knock down the waves, which reduces the current and clears the water, and push the tides way out so you can drive easily along and find the best holes. The downside is that west wind in bug season brings all the BSDs over the dunes and onto your body - big saltmarsh skeeters, greenheads, gnats and horseflies! Fish ain't all that bite on a west wind Wink
