depends on which direction the water is moving, how fast it is moving and how much water is moving
drains, cuts, and drop-offs are best on falling tides and/or low tides
pot holes on the flats are best on incoming and/or high tides
Note that I use falling tides and low tides as different things. Falling and Incoming have to do with direction of the tide. Low and High have to do with how much water is there. _________________ GoinCoastal aka Cap'nSherbet |

| thanks for the input seems to me on cuts with moving water I catch smaller fish, may sit and catch 10 to 15 rats all same size, on pot holes catch bigger fish just usually one here one there. |

I want to make sure I understand the term "pothole" correctly.
Where I'm from, (Louisiana), potholes are found all over the roads.
Around here, if I'm not mistaken, a pothole is a sandy spot in the middle of a grassy spot on a flat. I just want to verify this. I've lived with misconceptions before.
There should be a Texas Angler's Dictionary. _________________ Chad Landry

True Lee... However, I don't look so much for cuts as I do drains. A spot where it drops from real shallow into a cut. To me cuts can be Morris Cummings Cut and thats a lot of water. Or the Sailboat Channel. Those spots where the flats literally drain off into a cut. That's what I prefer.
CJ - YES!!! However I don't just look for sand pockets in the grass. I look for any hole in the grass, deeper with grass, mud, shell, sand, or cut. Any deeper spot on that flat. And don't forget to look for tails when your looking for potholes. _________________ GoinCoastal aka Cap'nSherbet |
