Can anybody recommend a good yak for taking baits out in the surf. As well as fishing back bays also? An what do they run cost wise? Thanks.

Wow thats a loaded question, I have a Malibu X factor and love it. It will do any thing and is as stable as a barge. It runs around $950.00. For just messing aroud mainsteam makes an inexpensive yak. I can't wait to here the rest of the guys have to say.

yea my drifter is the same way.i can stand up on it in the bay but i realy have to watch the breaks and not get side ways at all or you will get rolled Smile

i have a frenzy and take it out to the lake and it runs pretty good pretty sure the bay is not much different than the lake. not the fastest yak but you don't have to work hard to make it run i paddled all day and never got sore my first time out. and it is great in the surf also. they run for around 350 at academy if you want the malibu 2 they have them for under 600 this is just a malibu2 not the xl. if you buy the frenzy it costs 350 then a seat costs 66 and paddle 70 lifevest 40 + tax.

Under $400 w/seat, buy a $39 paddle, and you shouldn't have much trouble in the surf.

Just keep the nose pointed into the breakers on the way out, and lean back on the way in, and don't get too sideways.

It's stable, fast, cheap, and has a lot of storage...not to mention the rod holders built in.

I disagree on the 39$ paddle - buy the best paddle you can afford. A cheap paddle will hold you back as quickly as a badly designed kayak
learned that lesson a few years ago from an olympic paddler

I agree with purchasing a better paddle. But, he mentioned something about cost showing that he may be on a budget.

You can spend $39 on a paddle and do just fine running baits in the surf...

The longer bay/lake excursions will make you want the high dollar paddle tthat's lighter and more efficient.

The Mainstream Kingfish is a good choice, like shawn said. $400 and you have a good kayak. They are popular and the Academy's in austin are having a hard time keeping them in stock.
