Alfish is correct.
The reason tho is they have found that the cool waters will sustain teh trout year round. Meaning they will get to 27". Also, as a result of the TPWD regulation of that section of the Guad, GRTU also stocks the river. However, their trout aren't just the little stockers, but also some very nice grown trout.
Check out the link to GRTU for more info....

BTW - Those 20"+ trout on a 4wt flyrod is pretty darn fun. _________________ GoinCoastal aka Cap'nSherbet |

According to the regs that I read it is not illegal to fish in those fly fishing designated areas on the Guadalupe with other means, it is only illegal to retain fish in those areas. So if you practice catch and release you can use other means than artificial.
At least that is the way that the regs were deciphered to me. _________________

Why even catch something that small! Freshwater fishermen crack me up. _________________ Fish hard, fish the Bluff. Surrounded by water!

Seen several very large rainbows come out of the tailrace. Fish the tailrace when the weather is cold, and especially when the tailrace releases are very high, and you may be surprised. Huge rainbows and striper come to the headwaters. I would never have suspected that rainbows could survive the guadelupe for that long. _________________ Edward |

I hooked into a good one this morning, way bigger than the hatchery fish, too bad he shook free. The biggest I've caught by the tailrace is about 12-13", this one was noticably bigger. I may have to up size my baits.

| I grew up in New Braunfels and the trout fishing there in the winter is great. I know guys that have been spooled by Stripers below Canyon Damn while reeling in those 10-12" trout. I have also caught many 18-20" trout in the catch and release part of the river. |

They used to stock trout in that pond of Waldron in the Bluff and the best bait to use there was Government Cheese!
I think they had less trout to work with this year so they went with the pond at Lakeview Park. |
