Mike Sowden-- I was the one who mentioned the camel, just a touch of humor so don't take it so seriously. I seriously do not believe any camels live on PINS today. I don't know who mentioned venus.

Now on the serious side, I too have had experiences with strange lights on PINS. First time was a friend back in 1982 not sure what he saw but he saw lights hovering behind the dunes. Last year I also happened to see some strange looking lights. They seemed to be transparent orbs hovering close to the surf line, they seemed to remain in front of me for quite a ways and then just dissappeared, I thought of it as odd but dismissed it as reflections, I thought about them for a bit but just let it go perhaps for lack of an explanation. It was about 330 am and a bit foggy and I had spent the better part of the night driving alone.

The stranger encounters I have experienced age more of the "ghostly" kind and I have had that documented and on the web for a while here- http://alamoareaanglers.homestead.com/SpiritsPINS.html
strangely enough months later i was sitting around a camp fire on PINS recounting the story and a young lady in the group asked me what I was talking about, I told her the story and she said " I thought you were talking about my ghosts" She then recanted an incident which was eerily similar to mine and just over a mile away from where mine had occurred. She was nice enough to write about that here.. http://alamoareaanglers.homestead.com/VoicesInTheStorm.html

So take it for what its worth, there is no telling what can occur out there many things have happened over the years and I'm sure many more are to come. Last year for instance a huge green fireball was witnessed in the night sky going from one end of the island to the other and oddly enough only a few people saw it.

Venus has been rightly and wrongly accused of being a UFO for decades, in part because it has been reported by its observers as appearing to pursue them, even when they're aboard cars and aircraft. That's why I suggested Venus as an explanation. Someone else had mentioned the Navy's F4 Phantom, but I scoffed at that because the noise of an F4 on afterburner is second only to that of a Concorde. I gave audiograms to a Phantom squadron once and wound up advising half the ground crew members not to waste money on stereos because they had high range hearing losses.

I have similar reservations about the phenomenon reported at the beginning of the string being a hovercraft; again, it's mostly because they're noisy as hell. Dittto helicopters, because, while their engines can be muffled and the ducted tail fans reduce the interaction with the main rotor's wake that produces the classic "whup, whup, whup" noise, when close to the observer, the sand and the water they would still produce very tell-tale minitature storms, flying sand and spray. I'm most interested that this was on a night with no moon and a lot of bioluminescence in the water, yet whatever bore the light apparently didn't leave a glowing wake in the first gut, so that would seem to rule out boats, hovercraft and helicopters flying near the surface. Finally, I can't conceive of anyone successfully navigating the first gut for any distance at a high rate of speed because of the gut's shallowness.

Venus is still a better candidate in my mind than conventional craft. As to the subject of UFOs, they're a fantastic subject for discussion, but by definition unidentifiable.

Now, would someone like to explain the circumstances of the camel photo and sightings? Question

1. as for the noise the pursuer did/didnt make, i drive a diesel

2. you mentioned it not leaving a glowing wake, its hard to drive 30mph at nighttime, frightened, looking over your shoulder through very dark tinted windows at a light chasing you, its a 4 door, the back window was up

3. no doubt operating a vessel in the wade gut is a difficult task, as difficult as shooting out into the gulf over the first bar at an incredible speed, my daily grind is performance cars, i've spent a little time around drag boats, this is the reason i was shocked enough to start this thread, i've heard stories of drug runners running up next to shore in "some amazing machinery", "heard". its speed never increased over 30mph, my driving 50mph gave me enough time to back up to the dunes and regather my composure.

as for my comment about the 26 yr old skipper, he was a customer calling about a car, he mentioned being in the navy and the conversation went from there, i'm 24 and know nothing of the navy or its ranks, he described his job as the guy to set the aircraft carrier into the wind for take offs and landings. i dunno.

i read the ghost story, shocking in that the itial sound that brought my eyes to the light, seemed to be a deep voice, HEY! but this took place in the teens and ghosts dont swim Laughing

i'm not trying to discredit you're response Jfrench, sounds like you know a great deal, please give your input on the above 3 points and lets bury this thread.

So Ryan, you are saying that the sound that called your attention to the light was a "Hey!"?

That would be the third confirmed one.

Freaking weird, the "Hey" strikes again.

There is definitely something mystical about that island.

i dont believe our hey's to be related, while jfrench has a 95%chance of being correct, i'm almost positive it was humans in some kind of waterbound vessel, with all the extra activity that week i feel the hey was either a drugrunner or some kind of illegal activity expecting me to be the pickup for whatever they might be dropping off, i cant get the trianglar shape that sped out of my headlights beams out of my mind and how much it resembled the tower of a sub(impossible, i know).

i'm embarrassed to say i'm not familar with knots to understand how quick 0-40 in 10 seconds is. twin 660hp cats, water jet propulsion??? if you can pull up this kind of boat on the internet, think about what you cant...

Water jet propulsion is what they have been using in alaska on the rivers for over 20 years. No props to get hung up on rocks. Very fast boats with very shallow draft can go virtually any where, even down the wade gut. Very Happy I understand that they even have outboard motors for fishing boats using the water propulsion systems. But sand and weeds raise hell with the intake. Sad I think 40 knots is about 46 mph.

One more thing on this thread, since it is so interesting. Although I can honestly say that I've never seen anything that might remotely be a UFO (and that's even with me looking for them), I did see two mysterious ORBS on the beach in the middle of the day earlier this year. Others confirmed the ORBS, so I know what I saw was real. The ORBS moved at a slow pace, and we saw them near the turtle shack.

Just havin fun with this post, please don't get mad at me. I wouldn't be too surprised if UFO's really did exist. I've been looking at the sky all night and have only seen meteors. I think there is a meteor shower going on right now. A couple of them were really bright, leaving a trail behind them.

Ryan, rather than continue to do a point-by-point discussion, with every non-expert like myself endlessly tossing out maybes and what ifs, why don't you sit down and gather together every shred of detail you can recall about your incident and give it to some law enforcement types. I'm dying to hear that too, but if there really are some sinister goings-on on this beach we don't want to delay or otherwise interfere with something that deserves closer inspection by the Coast Guard, Homeland Security, DEA, etc. If it's our own military screwing around, the brass need to know their slips are showing, too.

I appreciate that you may have had a hard time hearing and observing; that doesn't mean that there was or was not something there to be heard or seen. I hope you appreciate as well how difficult that makes it for someone who wasn't even there to guess what happened. Please write down everything you can remember from sundown to sunrise during that eventfull night, no matter how seemingly inconsequential, and pass it on to an official you trust. If you ever get feedback, please, like Paul Harvey, give us the rest of the story.

Johnny, the military was very much involved in my siteing with the F4's and all, then the Navy brass talking to me at length. Then all of a sudden nothing, not a work was ever about it again. My Captain friend on the base said all records had disappeared. It just didn't happen! BS it didn't!

Ya, Mike, just like the time we found one of the USN's shiny new practice marine mines at PINS and I mentioned it to the brass at a public hearing the next day. They made a phone call, then told me none were missing from their inventory. The Navy went and recovered it, anyway.

C.H. and I had an F4 encounter of our own years ago south of Alpine. We were rock collecting down in a valley when the craft popped over a ridge behind us and bounced us good. The pilot must have done it intentionally, having scouted us from high altitute first to know exactly what course to take for maximum effect.

I dont think the orbs had anything to do with ball lighting, especially at the turtle shack Laughing Laughing

Johnny, they use to fly up and down the beach about 50' off the deck and you would never hear them coming until it was too late, scare the poop out of you. Some would even roll over, come back, slow down and wave and salute us. We would always wave back and not with 1 finger either.
We had our own air show! lol
They used to work on them on the base at the ARADMAC facility during the Viet Nam era. I really respect our military guys and give them a thumbs up when I see them. Mike

Mentioned already audiogramming a Phantom squadron one time. Spent a whole month at Alameda scheduling their chest x-rays and getting their shot cards up to date so we could board a carrier bound for the Gulf of Tonkin. The pilots had a primitive simulator in their ready room with a screen and joystick that allowed them to follow a radar target for a certain period so that if you were still locked on when time expired you were awarded a "kill." Any one of these guys could do it every time, but when I grabbed the stick the pip disappeared in a split second.

The day we were supposed to report aboard, LBJ dissolved the squadron and 3 more he'd called up during the Pueblo Crisis. Ninety-five percent of the men were reservists, including all of the pilots who'd taken a huge pay cut from their civilian jobs with the airlines, so they disappeared like a puff of smoke. I was one of the few "Regular Navy" guys, with two years yet to serve on my enlistment, so I called the Corpsman Detailer down in San Diego and asked for my next duty station to be any island in the Pacific. He sent me to a place called Quang Tri, instead. Sad

Ryan,

There is no doubt in my mind you saw something. You wouldn't have posted this if you didn't. I believe there was something there.

More than likely, you may never know what it was. It could have been something explainable or it could have been something from the spirtual realm, which our human brains do not have the capability to comprehend.

Thanks for sharing this. There is still a lot to discover the human race hasn't found yet.

My wife and kids and I were somewhere around the 50 one December and we kept noticing white streaks flying way high over the water then over our rods and over the dunes. We looked at those and wondered what the heck they could be. A short time later we figured out what those white streaks were and that they weren't flying high, they were those cobwebs or cobweb spiders. I had several of them land on the tip of my rod on Saturday and I laughed to myself about that. On a bluebird day like that was they really looked like they were contrails or exhaust streaks from some objects flying way high.
Some things have reasonable explanations like that one but Ryan's encounter and Torpedo's "hey" stories may never be explained.
Billy Sandifer has some PINS stories and they would make your skin crawl. Now if we can get him to write that book.
