I saw a Tarpon in Aransas Bay about 700 yards out from the Bass Ranch House near the mouth of Allyn's Bite. I was utterly shocked. The fish actually jumped full body out of the water twisting and spinning like he was hooked but there were no boats nearby. I saw the fish from a distance of about 200 yards and am 100% of what I saw. I have caught Tarpon in FL and have seen thousands of dolphin/porpuses and am 100% sure it was a Tarpon. I was stunned not only that the fish was where it was, but that it jumped that way.
With all the talk of Tarpon at the Port A jetties, obviously this isn't earth shattering news but I think it's really cool that they are back in the bay as well. How cool would it be to have a tarpon slam your Top Dog and just go flying through the air 30 feet in front of you. |

| Sweet mother, thats awesome. I was at Allyn's and Mud a couple of weeks ago looking for reds. What a surprise that musta been. Guess you never know where they might turn up. The only one I've ever seen was a couple of years ago in the Lydia Ann channel during an outgoing tide. He rolled about 20 feet from our boat, but there was no mistaking what it was. |

It makes you wonder just what kind of numbers are in the group that is migrating to the Texas coast. I know some old timers who claim that back in the early 60's they were just everywhere from POC to Aransas during this time of year. I have an uncle who claims he hooked one while trout fishing POC in the early 60's.
If the numbers in this migration continue to grow, this could become a serious boom for some of these already booming coastal communities. |

| About two years ago a friend and I were wading in aransas bay(to the left of the bridge before the ferry) and he hooked up on a tarpon. I looked over to see hime realing in a fish with only his hands holding the rod out of the water. After he stood back up the fish had made its way toward him and fell off the hook after nearly jumped over my friends head! It was a pretty cool sight to see. |

Historically where there are tarpon there is usually Bull Sharks. It's worth a little caution if you're out wading going after the Silver Giants. _________________ Magic |
