Got these in from Flakman this morning. I can tell you that the tuna tasted like tenderloin only better
Drillship near Hoover/Diana. A big marlin hangs out here!
Our 1st tuna on freelined sardine chunk
Hoover/Diana at 1st light
We got tackle!
Nice one!
Heading home - note my blue Avet and BillyStick!
At the dock for the kill shot!

Caught 6 Blackfin and two yellow fin with it. Cranked even the largest yellowfin w/o any problem and much faster that those using TDL 25 or 6/0 Penn Senators on similar sized fish. Reel was loaded with 80# jerry Brown Spectra to a 100 yard top shot of 50# clear Suffix. I tied straight on to ringed and swiveled 6/0 Owner Super Mutu circle for freelining sardine chunks for most of the fish. Got lots of complements on rod and reel - sure looks sweet. _________________ Ahh sand between my toes! |

I have reel loaded with 400 yards of 80# Spectra with 100 yard top shot of 50# clear Sufix. I was able to get my fish in much quickler that those fishing with a ShimanoTLD 25 LeverDrags. Here are the specs and a picture (mine is blue!):
This new Avet is a most useful 4/0 size, capable of pulling 20# of drag with freespool at the strike position on the lever. The reel does have some excellent freespool right out of the box, with stainless steel six ball bearings helping her spin. It also has some unique features like a self canceling clicker, push button spool locking, and a cast control backlash prevention position on the leverdrag. The thing is built like a tank, with ergonomic power handle coupled to the two speed function, it's got POWER! With it's all machined aluminum construction it's got strength as well as looks. Gear ratio is 4:1 and 2:1 in low. Of course this reel is proudly designed and manufactured in the USA

i really like the tuna setup that flak man has, i was in texas a couple weeks ago and was looking at that reel at that big fishing place, cant remember the name of the store, but it really is a honey.
the custom spiral that i built for flakman is a calstar 6470 blank slightly motified with fuzi s.i.c. guides and a n americian ah28m brass reel seat, and slick butt for stability, this rod blank is by far one of the finest tuna or stand up blanks that you can buy.
he also has a one of a kind custom wrap job to boot. if any one is in the mkt for a stand up rod or a "tunastix" then please feel free to contact me for your very own billystix custom "tunastix"
later
