Just read The asrticle by Ms. Libby A******. Guess That I am a Reneck I have never been so insulted before. I just sent in my membershio to the RFA. I live in San Antonio. I also spend over $7000.00 dollars a year in the Redneck Mecca of Texas. If my money is not good enough for likes of miss Libby Then maybe I ought to take it elsewhere..............

In response to the article by Libby A. I would like to thank you for assigning me a stereo type. I knew that I held beliefs that differ from others, but to find out that I was redneck, what an absolution! I have always believed that Texas was a great place to live. As with any place, Texas suffers from social ills. There will always people who do not appreciate what they have. I also understand that it is the responsibility of a journalist to present different views that might be overlooked.
In the not so distant past the term Redneck had a completely different connotation than the one presented by Libby A. Once upon a time a redneck was some one who did an honest days work for a honest days wage. This wage was usually obtained from a job that today is considered menial. Whether it was picking up trash, or digging a ditch, the red neck was a symbol of some one doing labor. Once upon a time the red neck was a badge of honor, a person providing for their family, no matter how menial the job.
The Texas Open Beach Act was enacted to preserve the rights of Texans. The right to enjoy their beaches. Whether it is fishing, swimming, or simple relaxation. Our beaches must not be privatized. Closing the beach limits access for those people who cannot afford to stay at a resort, such as the one proposed.
Redneck Riviera is another way of stating our beaches are property of our hard working residents and visitors. A beach that anyone can enjoy, not just the select few. The beaches do not belong to The City of Corpus Christi, or any other municipality. Our municipalities are just charged with their care. They belong to us, the residents of the great state of Texas!
Sincerly,
Jerry Leonard |

"I am appalled to see a journalist of high position with the Caller Times take such a haughty position against the working families in our city and state. She is certainly not local enough to understand what redneck means or what it is like to have to live in a trailer when you can afford no better. Certainly the intense stereotype she renders in her article is meant to distract from the debate which is preventing a local precedent that would weaken our rights under Texas Open Beaches Act. I may not live in a trailer but I won’t forget my roots to kiss the feet of those who never have. "
Not that I expect them to have the integrity to admit wrong doing with the low blow of an article. |

When you read all of the bashing against the people trying to keep our beaches open by the paper and city officials, it validates that old saying:
Poor folks have poor ways,
Rich folks have mean ones _________________ When it's all said and done,
