Just a heads up for all times, I never bother to spell check, I'm a lazy writer.

It's 1 AM and I can't sleep so thought I would write a think piece. I now most of you are sound alseep and can't wait to get up to catch some fish tomarrow, wish I could join ya tomarrow.

Redfish Bay " think piece "...

How many of you can remember the first time your dad took you fishing for the all american Redfish! I'll never forget! I can't remember my age much though ( HA ) I was 12 or 14. But I'll never forget the trip. My dad worked at the Aluminum plant in Ingleside and saved up enough money to buy me a push button Zebco rod and reel. We loaded up in our 14 ft boston whaler and headed to Redfish bay. I still remember every cast as I was chuncking a " Gilligan's Island bait " the silver spoon! And about an hour later the fight was on, and I caught my first slot Red. My dad was so proud, I'll never forget that, and now I can relate to it as I have a son now. ( This year I took my 5 year old son out to the same set of flats and watched him catch his first Red all by himself, and on a silver spoon. ) I ended up catching my limit of slot reds that day and I was forever hooked on fishing.
Dad and I have fished there ever since. Redfish bay is our favorite place to fish, our favorite spot. It's were I learned everything about how, when, and where to fish. But from year to year it depends like anything else. Some years you can stay in one area, and others you have to travel alot just to get a limit for 3 people. This year in May my Dad and I fished the same 100 yards of flats in Brown and Root and caught 61 slot Reds in 5 days ( all release except 6 ). But in Redfish Bay at least to me, traveling is the key to success. In May of 2006 that strategy will no longer be a strategy with the new Sea Grass law.
How many of you on finding out something, at first you lashed out? You were critical and bitter? But after a week or two thinking about it you realized you just over reacted? Well that is the way I have been on finding out about this new law. At first I thought it was just plan stupid to protect a grass, you can't eat it, you can't build a house with it! And I firmly believe that if someone really wants to KNOW the Truth they should go and study and find out the truth for themselves. I don't care if your a scientist, biologist, Judge, Preacher, or an Engineer! Eggs will kill you, no wait there good for you, sea grass grows once every 100 years, no wait a minute it grows everyspring, Abortion is in the Constitution, no hold on, it's not, there's one bible and 1000 different churches, and just how many of you mechanics or A/C repairmen have screamed at Engineers. It's just human nature to parrot what other people say rather than looking it up for ourselves. People are just lazy ( I'm included ). And I really don't want to spend the next 4 to 6 years in College to figure out why and how sea grass grows. But I sure have some opinions about it, but opinions aren't facts. And Johnny French, if you even got this far I applaud you, and my comments where out of line bud. The fact of the matter is I'm selfish about my fishing spot and don't want people messing with the way I fish. But on the other hand people have been messing with my fishing in Redfish bay for a long time already. They're the weekend city slicker's who cut through my drift, who don't give a dam, they have no respect while i'm respecting them. it's the idiots that barrel through the flats and stop to fish for 20 minutes without a tunnel. Then they start there motor and rooster tail for 50 yards just to get up and out of the flats in their boats. Fishin' in Redfish bay just ain't as peaceful as it used to be. So bring on the new law! I hope it sifts out all the wrong people. It will be nice once again when my old man and I have the flats all to ourselves on the weekend now including my son. Hope it takes years for people to have the guts and patience to fish my favorite spot.
Now questions for you guys. I finally looked at the article in the Caller times and looked at the mapped off area of redfish bay. Does anyone know why the lower laguna and upper coast grass flats where not protected? Because at first I thought the entire Gulf Coast was affected by the law, not just RedFish Bay. I jumped to conclusions and errored.

Good luck fishin tomarrow!
