today and yesterday have been nothing but lockjaw reds for me,
i seem to find'em , throw my tackle box, and get the big lockjaw.

Are they others getting the same results?

i even found a school of tailing redfish this morning and got nothing?

The Barometric pressure has been high over the past 4-5 days the bite has been very slow. Right now the pressure is 30.06. I have found that high pressure will give them a good case of lockjaw.

The Barometer will kill the bite when it is high. Are these tailing fish or just schooled up fish? When all else fails in these times, I go to live shrimp with the heads ripped off for sightcasting. Just pop the head off and rig on a widegap with about an 18-20 inch 20-30 pound leader. No weight, just the weight of the shrimp and leader will get you there. Put it in front of one of the cruisers, I have yet to go unbit with this method. Not as pure a method as artificials but desperate times call for desperate measures!

Later,

The Troutman

I like a 29.85 to 29.90 barometric pressure. I've found anything above that can slow the bite. But I don't know what point might take them off the bite. I'm sure there are other opinions out there.

Throw imatation crabs at them & just drag across. Most of the time reds are eyes down & are rooting crabs thus all they are really interested in, will ignore your lures if tailing for crabs. Idea

In the past I've questioned barometric pressure over open water (thousands of acres, of a lake or bay) but now trust the fishing/weatherman gurus that it's no good for fishing! ....For example, TPWD department stocked Rainbow trout in Seabourne Creek Park last year, as part of our freshwater trout stamp fishing priveledges. I knew one day 1200 trout were still in this four acre pond, but spend 10 hours catching but one and a bluegill -- and that is after five days of limiting out prior to the rainstorm with corn, salmon eggs and number #8 j-hooks....
