Jim Starr of Aransas Pass caught this huge 70lb class Redfish and released it before doing any actual measuring or weighing but I think you will agree it is a monster. The world record is from N.Carolina and is about 96lbs.
Nice Catch!

Amazing how much bigger bull reds can get on the Alantic seashore. The current all-tackle world record for red drum is held by Dave G. Deuel for a 94-pound, 2-ounce fish. It was caught in the surf on the Outer Banks at Avon, North Carolina, on Novenber 7, 1984.

I've seen one red come close to that one here in Texas. My dad and I were on the way to the beach and we passed someone hooked up while fishing packery on the edge of the causeway. We headed out to the beach, came back because of the high surf, ate at Snoopies, then passed back by the dude. By this time there were two cop cars, and a game warden watching the guy battle his monster. We pulled over and watched two and he finally lands the biggest red fish I have ever seen. Absolutley a huge fish, but I believe Jim's red was bigger. Great catch Jim.

Jim that is a great fish, and know you enjoyed that fish. It was great you let it go to thrill another fisherman. The biggest Red I ever caught up there was 56lbs. and mine looked small compared to yours.
Tyler, I saw the World Record Mount at Rodanthe also. That was my old stomping grounds when I was a kid. I fished alot on the Outter Banks with my dad. Jim's going to be disappointed when he gets home after that one.
Best of luck and hurry home, HIP |
