Headed out to Mustang Island Saturday with my brother-in-law and decided to fish the fish pass jetties. When I arrived I saw one guy with a nice stringer of a monster trout and 2 smaller ones and by the time he left i saw him catch 2 nice 27 in reds. I free-lined live shrimp for a while with no luck, just lots of skip jack. I caught a 12in drum and a good sized sand trout, but nothing good. Tried some cut bait , but the reds were after the live bait. Live croaker and live mullet worked best. Both jetties were producing. Probably going to head back this Sunday.

I've never been to the Fish Pass Jetties - Do you have to enter mustang island state park and drive down the beach to get there?

you can get there from mustang or the access road north of mustang. Depends on what side you want to fish.

it doesn't matter you can use the park cause it is closer, but you have to pay to get n or you could use access road 2 by the mustang stables and drive up the beach. when you get there you can fish either side you want it is just a dune between the two and you can cross it no problem, but both sides were catching reds so it doesn't matter which way you go.

I am confused on exactly where this fish pass is. Can someone enlighten me? Do I need a boat?

it is accesible by 2wd truck or car. right on mustang island beach in the free parking zone. just go to access road 2 off of 361 (which is by mustang riding stables and the ccfire daprtment) and get on the beach and head toward padre island you cant miss it because the road ends at the jetties. they run up on the beach and extend out past the 3rd bar. or you could get there through access road 3 which is mustang island state park and take a left on the beach and head north. very nice place i liked it
