I want to introduce myself. I've been reading posts here and learning so much. My wife and I retired from teaching last year and have a place in Rockport. I grew up in Central Texas. I have always loved bay fishing all the way back to when my Dad and Mom would take me pier fishing at a pier on the JFK causeway near the old "draw-bridge or swing bridge" which ever that was (I was maybe 8 in the late '50's). I remember catching my first speckled trout and my first flounder. Wow, I was hooked a lot more than the fish! It became my dad's summer vacation location as we couldn't wait to get back down to the saltwater again. I remember how he would rent a motel room for a few days knowing he could not afford the cost but he did it for me because I loved catching those fish so much. After I got married, we'd still fish together at least one time each summer and sometimes more often. Those are great memories, now that he is gone.

Now, I've achieved a dream by having a small place down here. I'm trying to learn some spots to go under the different conditions. I admit that I'm at the bottom of the learning curve and my trips seems to be getting experience and not catching much. But, I love being out near, on, or in the water. I appreciate this site so much! I hope to attend one of the "porch meetings" or whatever you call it. I can tell there are some great people on here and I look forward to meeting you and maybe even "wetting a line" sometime. Sorry this got so long! -FishingGramps

Welcome to the board Rockport is a great place, not as great as the Bluff, but it will do. ha, ha. Theres good fishing over there and I bet some board members will be glad to help you out. You need a boat, or you need to start wading. I used to wade a spot to the right of copano bridge before you cross going toward goose island. Picked up quite a few stringers of trout there. Very Happy

Welcome aboard. Rockport is a fine place to be and fish. There are some locals in yiur area that can fix you up with the latest hop spot info.

I haven't fished that area in years, but only because I have a fishing cabin on the laguna near Bird Island.

Good Luck and Good Fishing

Jeff
