Late yesterday evening I shot a "Big" feral boar hog on the bank of a ground tank on my ranch. There were cattle in the area and one cow cautiously approached the hog and starting smelling it. I then drove my ATV up to the hog which attracted several more cattle ( I feed the cattle from my ATV.) In less than 10 minutes as I was standing by my ATV messing with the hog and looking at the cows, a full grown male coyote came trotting up to the tank in full view of me about 20 yards away and started to drink from the tank. I walked over to my ATV, picked up my rifle, and dispached him. I thought coyotes were smarter than that, but the pressence of the cattle must have messed his mind up. _________________ Off Shore Port Mansfield |

with the lack of rain and water.. animals will do odd things.. but for a coyote to come that close.. watch out for rabies..
maybe the cows thought that you got one of them... _________________ Fish and Hunt Baby.... so tight lines and clear scopes. |

A few years back I was rattling at a buddies ranch and had something similar happen to me. His cattle are extremely "people friendly"- Well I was on a brush line rattling- wasnt seeing much so I decided to walk accross this open field to the next brush line and give it a go- Well i stopped at the bases of a big oak and started up again. Rattled up a decent looking 8. Then the cows see me- they immediately start walking towards me- Once they got to me I thought- Great now it is over- no pictures of this buck- well he kept approaching without caution. I also saw another small buck and doe grazing and was able to walk within about 25 yards of them as I was surrounded by cattle.
It was a wierd experience....... |
