Depends on your body wieght. Ipersonally weigh 290lbs at 6ft and recomend mallibu II. IF your body wieght and build are smaller the frenzy,Remember the surf turns rough at times and those do the trick. _________________ ''ONE LAST CAST''

I have a Ocean Malibu II - got it so me and a buddy could cross the channel and wade, it will easily turn into a one man yak - they are not the easiest to paddle. I like mine, but this was the only one in the catalogue (I won enough potints to get it free). Allot of guys say that if you buy one goto Jerrys and paddle around to see what "fits" you better... I'm as light as a flower, but the beer I take weighs me down too much _________________ Happy Hook'n

They are on the higher end, but you really need to look into a Hobie w/ the Mirage Pedal Drive System. You can bust through the surf in no time. Not to mention, hands free fishing can't be beat. I do a lot of offshore yaking and love my Hobie Revolution. The Revolution SUV as they call it is a bit wider and has more weight capacity to it. I think the Revo is rated 350lb. Go by Jerry B's & He'll let you try them out. _________________ Vegetarian (n)...Old indian word for bad hunter |

| I have a Ocean Kayak Malibu II XL. Works great for one or two. Big enough to haul all my gear and is light enough to handle by myself. I would recommend you do not buy anything you do not try out. All the places that sell kayaks will have show days when you can try out different ones side by side. Only way to tell. Other than that, buy the best seats and paddles you can afford even if you have to get them somewhere else. I bought my paddles on line and saved a bunch of money over the cost to buy locally. |

I fish BTB and do rig runs regularly , almost every weekend. I have found the malibu II xl to be quite good for passing through the surf both during the launch and return. It also handles well in open water, and its quite a stable fishing platform. Lots of room too!!

I use an Ocean Speck and fished BTB many times in it. In fact, I have three of them. One of them has a Hummingbird depth/fish finder on it. _________________ Wake up and live |

what does BTB stand for? have ambitions of purchasing one this spring and would also like to enjoy the challange of fighting the surf to make it out to deeper waters and land a fish that will pull across the gulf for half an hour or so! risky but exciting in my opinion! _________________ I'm a Mawg: Half Man, Half Dog. I have a drifter and a Hobie Outback and for the surf I would prefer the OK Drifter. _________________ Fishing and Kayaking its a rough life but somebody has to do it. |

Check out the guys up at High Island and nearby points that do a lot of BTB. Yaks of choice up that way(and much of California) are the Cobra Fish n Dive and the Malibu X-Factor. Most guys down this way tend to bad mouth them(Cobras) mainly I think because there are no Cobra dealers in the area and people are not familar with their products---which are guaranteed for life, replacable if a defect occurs with no questions asked(unless you took it out and dropped it out of a cargo plane)!
A good source is Texas Kayak Fisherman web site and do a search on BTB kayaks, Cobra kayaks, et. al.
Good luck. _________________ Mike |

for under 350 I would check texaskayakfisherman.com classified section
try before you buy, i have a speck & a manta ray12
for the surf i would pick the speck in a heartbeat much more stable, manta ray is faster
try before you by!!!
i bought the Ocean Kayak speck (same as scrambler xt) before trying. Well the speck has a small seat section, too small for me. |
