| The way I understand it, the 6.8 SPC was developed by the military to bridge the gap between the 5.56mm/.223 and the 7.62/.308 rounds the military uses. From what I have seen, it does a great job of bridging the gap. It's a good round for small game, however being a relatively new round, the ammo itself isn't as readily available as 5.56 or 7.62. I know several guys who shoot competitively in NRA high power rifle matches and they all have switched from the 5.56. They also reload their own rounds, so commercial availability isn't a problem. |

Great round! Remington hit the spot with this one, only problem is ammo is a little expensive to go spraying paper with an AR. But it is sure a lot of fun to shoot. If your friend is selling it for a good price it would be well worth it! _________________ V/R,

Drake,
The 6.8 is a .270 with a shorter case and made to fire in a AR15 config, not to be confused with a 270 short mag. Great round, much greater impact power than the .223 and has the inherit accuracy and flat ballistics of the .270win.
From the Wiki site:
The 6.8 SPC delivers 44% greater energy than the 5.56 mm NATO(M4 configuration) at 100-300 meters. When compared to the more powerful and well-established 7.62x51mm NATO cartridge, the 6.8 mm falls short, but has less recoil and is more controllable. While the 6.8 mm generates around 1,759 ft·lbf (2385 J) of muzzle energy with its 115 grain bullet, the 7.62 mm NATO (M80) fires a 147 grain bullet at 2,750 ft/s for 2460 ft·lbf of energy (838.2 m/s for 3335 J).
If you can get the upper for about $500, steal it. If you reload, even better.
Me I want an AR heavy barrel in 6.5grendal as my first choice, 6.8SPS 2nd and 223 third.
Ammo is becoming more available for the 6.8.
Good luck post if you get it and how you like it.

LOL! I was thinking of taking the Mrs. out to Starry this weekend. She is on call but wants to shoot her gun so she can't be too far away from work |

Shot it the other day when a hunter brought his. Kicks and jumps like a 5.56 but knocks them down like a 7.62. If you can find SP for it your gravy _________________ What's good for me ain't necessarily good for the weak minded.... |

| Okay, bring it down one evening so I can see it. You can hide it in your cart and pretend you are taking the dog for a walk. :) |

So how do you like the 6.8?
I think it would we a good short action bolt round also.
If the kids can shot it its a keeper.
